I only said i didnt like 3 things, i bet you dont like at least 3 things in the food world!! 🙂 I have some couscous in the kitchen achally I should give it a go, good idea! though that fish finger samwidge seems more apealing as the evening goes on
There is a couscous recipie on the one of the sainsburies cards.
If your not into reading recipies, just cook the couscous according to the instructions on the back. (I think u just just poor boiling water on it) and then add corriander some kind of meat some veg and you could even add a stock cube. Its really nice! Plus you can make semilina with it aswell, although i’m not sure how you do this.

pesto is nice … but it can be quite expensive … even if you make it your self it costs a good couple of quid as it can be hard getting the ingreadiance you need in small enough amounts for just a few meals .. and it doesn’t keep for very long if made fresh
You can get really cheap pesto sauce in audi! Costs about £1 I think. And you can still eat it after the sell by date!

It will cost you less if your only cooking for 2. The cards are free and you can buy this little folder for them to go in for 49p. Its just good simple hearty food. That tastes better than baked beans, failing that of course you could try spagetti on toast.
If your on about cafe’s and such like weatherspoons do half decent meals and generaly have some buy one get on free deals on during the week, and if you like proper beer they have a good selction in there so i’m told.
I ment just to cook myself really, Ill have a look in sainsburys when I next go.
Think i might buy a student type cook book or something
April 27, 2009 at 7:09 pm #1197868I love cooking, Can cook some wicked meals. This doesn’t help you in any way though I just like to brag this fact.
How about making a nice chilli con carne? Spend a fiver and cook a fair bit of it, then freeze and defrost it whenever you want, same goes for curries. 🙂

April 28, 2009 at 9:26 am #1197851AnonymousAnother way to find cheap food is to hang around your local 24 hour supermarket like a ASBO with nothing better to do and find out when the supermarket reduces it’s price of food to clear it’s stock.
I used to go shopping at ASDA at 7:45 and i’d pick up french sticks for 4p, foot long bread batons for 3p, pack of 5 bagels for 20p and meat half it’s retail price 30 minutes before.
April 28, 2009 at 11:46 am #1197880yeah i do that some times at the asda near my work .. if i get there at the right time they are reducing all the stock that goes off the next day .. cut price peeking duck wraps ftw!
April 28, 2009 at 4:24 pm #1197889soil is pretty cheap
April 28, 2009 at 9:26 pm #1197909Beans are great.
try mixing ground black pepper in them. makes them new and interesting.
or to be realy fancy
tin of beans + couples teaspoons of garamasala spice mix + some dried chillies or chilli powder(1/2 to 1 teaspoon). chuck it over some boiled spagetti. whay hey!.. curried bean pasta. of course serve with tomatoe ketchup too.
or melt cheddar into your beans – cheesey beans
or soft yolked eggs, beans and chips. what a combo!
don’t knock beans they are number one!
If you want some cheap nutrition try this. once youve done it twice i takes 5 mins.
get gram flour (chick pea)
8 big spoons in a bowl.
grate onion, carrot, broccoli, crushed peas what ever veg you like (not turnip or potato or tomato they don’t bind well)
salt (1/2 teaspoon)
garamasala (two table spoons)
turmeric (1/2 teaspoon)
chilli (1 tea spoon)
corriander leaf and extra(its in the garamasala powder) corriander powder if you likeadd water stirring loads till its like thick melted ice cream texture.
fry it like pancakes in a little oil till its brown and crispy on each side.
you can also dipp bread in the batter (without the veg) and fry it too.
sooo easy and vegan too.

get some cheap braising steak, a bottle of beer (spitfire is good), an onion, a carrot and a big flat mushroom or two
you also need a bit of butter, plain flour, a vegetable or beef stock and tomato puree
for a tasty dish
if it sounds good i’ll give you the recipe
April 28, 2009 at 11:35 pm #1197861sounds nice glo, but surely the beer makes it expensive as it is?

April 29, 2009 at 8:41 pm #1197881easy cheese sauce .. (my own recipy)
sauce for 2 people
cooking time 15-20 mins
ingrediance …
*2 oz of butter
*1 oz of sifted plain flower
*3/4 of a pint of milk
*shit load of cheese (depends on how cheesy you like things/how much cash you got … wouldn’t use less than a good 100g-150g tho or it will not give enough flavor)
*2-3 garlic cloves
*half an onion
*4-5 rashers of bacon (optional)
*salt/pepper to tastecooking instructions …
chop the onions and garlic and grate the cheese.
get a wide-ish based sauspan and melt the butter on a medium heat till it just starts to sizzle. Then add the flower and with a fork almost whip till it forms a smooth paste (if it starts bubbling loads then take it off the heat quick and let it cool till it stops bubbling and turn down heat a little bit) keep this up for a minit or two then gradualy add the milk in about 1/8ths of the total amount. Whip to a smooth consistancy then add the next bit of milk and repeat till all milk is added. This is the base for your sauce rdy to cook. All you have to do now to it is bring it to a light simmer for 15-20 mins and stir every minit or so to stop it sticking to the bottom, stop it seperating and to cook the flower evenly.
whilst this is cooking…
get a frying pan on a medium heat and melt a knob of butter. chuck in the the onions and when it starts to sizzle turn it down to a low heat. sweat the onions. Agrivate ocasionaly. ( sound like a proper chef there eh 😉 )
(if you choose to use bacon stick this in a pre-heated grill for about 5 minits b4 the sauce is cooked)
5 minits b4 the sauce is ready chuck the garlic in with the onions (if you choose to use bacon stick this in a pre-heated grill for about 5 minits b4 the sauce is cooked as well)
when your sauce is ready take off the heat and whisk/whip it for a minit to get a silky texture then dump all the cooked onion and garlic in (and chop the bacon and dump that in too if you used it) then stir for a minit (if you cook your onion and garlic earlyer you can add them in a few mins b4 the sauce is done and this will realice a bit more flavor into the sauce but the texture may not be as smooth as when you wisk/whip it the bit’s of onion/garlic will get in the way) last thing b4 you serve is dump all that loverly cheese in and stir till melted … and your away 😉
this is loverly with pasta …
stick the pasta into some pre-boiling water with some salt and olive oil 8-10 mins b4 your sauce is ready then after 8-10 mins drain the pasta and poor boiling water over it in a colinder to get rid of starch and leave for 30 secs to steam of exsess water … stick back in dry hot pan and add sauce and mix then serve
goes nice with chicken and roast/saute potatoes
goes well with alot of things as it goes :laugh_at: .. be creative 😉
