Russian DJ Artyom mixing on a home-made pitch-able cassette tape system with up to +-25% (1210mk technics max out at +-8%) and a jog-dial for beat matching.

I particularly like the analogue counter!

That – is – awesome !!!! I bet it wears out your tapes though lol I would love to have a go on it. I used to have a expensive sony cassete walkman and that had pitch adjust on it, and I always thought if I could get two of them I could try and mix with it. (Young and stupid)

I can’t believe he’s even got a jog wheel on it. He officially wins my Person of the month award. (sorry daftfader maybe next month)

DJ’s from Latvia in 1991 using spools of tape (as it was still in the Soviet Union and there were no records!)

by then stereo reel to reel decks were quite common in the Soviet countries (may have even been made in Latvia) and as they used a synchronised motor (to 50 Hz mains) by varying this frequency pitch control could be added..

gotta love the lo fi approach.
I’ve got some videos of a guy that scratches with tapes somewhere.

I always like to see proof that even if modern tools are cool, what matters is how much your tools control you and how on top of them you are.
