Dont know much about car systems but the head unit i got (Alpine CDE-9802RB) can have a sub wired strait in

i know it would only power a small sub but would it be pointless?

never heard of that before! there is normally some kind of output for an amp etc, minimum power you would want for some half decent bass is bout 200w, that would be ok, not pointless i rekn. you can get small bass tubes etc, with a built in amp, they seem ok. i’m currently running a 1200w sub and 1200w amp in the car, gain down quite low on the amp tho, unbearable otherwise, my music is for me, not chavs on the seafront:bigsmile:

That one has 1 RCA pre-out (like the leads on seperate home stereos) that, combined with a (fused) power lead from the battery and the remote turn on wire (usually blue) should be taken back to the boot where you should drop in an amp to power your sub (in a box)

Keep the power leads seperate from the RCA leads as they may cause interference, run one down the middle of the car, the other down the sides. Make sure you fuse the power lead within 12″ of the battery, they can carry a lot of current and can set fire to stuff quite easily if they short…

Although it’s 4x45w output it will really struggle with a sub in a box as it’s a lot harder to move the cone.

Buy the amp, you know you want to!!!
