ALBERT EINSTEIN’S RIDDLE
ARE YOU IN THE TOP 2% OF INTELLIGENT PEOPLE IN THE WORLD? SOLVE THE RIDDLE AND FIND OUT.
There are no tricks, just pure logic, so good luck and don’t give up.
1. In a street there are five houses, painted five different colours.
2. In each house lives a person of different nationality
3. These five homeowners each drink a different kind of beverage, smoke different brand of cigar and keep a different pet.THE QUESTION: WHO OWNS THE FISH?
HINTS
1. The Brit lives in a red house.
2. The Swede keeps dogs as pets.
3. The Dane drinks tea.
4. The Green house is next to, and on the left of the White house.
5. The owner of the Green house drinks coffee.
6. The person who smokes Pall Mall rears birds.
7. The owner of the Yellow house smokes Dunhill.
8. The man living in the centre house drinks milk.
9. The Norwegian lives in the first house.
10. The man who smokes Blends lives next to the one who keeps cats.
11. The man who keeps horses lives next to the man who smokes Dunhill.
12. The man who smokes Blue Master drinks beer.
13. The German smokes Prince.
14. The Norwegian lives next to the blue house.
15. The man who smokes Blends has a neighbour who drinks water.ALBERT EINSTEIN WROTE THIS RIDDLE EARLY DURING THE 19th CENTURY. HE SAID THAT 98% OF THE WORLD POPULATION WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO SOLVE IT.
September 6, 2006 at 10:31 pm #1089098Yes..in about 5 seconds..using Google !…thats progress for ya:wink:
ask me about Quantem Physics:crazy:
September 6, 2006 at 10:46 pm #1089094Hmm, dunno. I’ve resisted the temptation to use Google so far.
In the list of people there is no reference to fish so I’d assume that is just a smoke screen. Could be wrong though.
“Who owns the fish” is a bit ambiguous though. What fish? All the fish on the planet? It’s not very specific.
September 6, 2006 at 10:52 pm #1089095Ok, I’ve just realised that through process of elimination there is someone who would be left owning the fish as there are 4 other pets mentioned.
Forget my original comment.
Still can’t work it out though.
September 6, 2006 at 11:07 pm #1089103bit of a head twister en it, sooooooooooo tempted to google it lol a mate showed it to me earlier in the middle of a smoke n it spun me rite out! :crazy_diz of course now that iv seen it i cant giv up so thought id share the ‘pleassure’ wit u guys,
it is do-able by power of deduction, theres info on 5 nationalities 5 colours 5 smokes 5 drinks but only 4 pets therefore the 1 left petless owns the fish………………the clues on the positions of the houses help work out wot goes where…………………………….as far as i can tell but im nowhere near solving it!!

we have a genius in our midst people!! hehe
lolSeptember 7, 2006 at 9:27 am #1089107So I got a sheet of paper and drew five boxes to represent houses, then five circles to represent people, then different shapes for smokes drinks and pets, then settled down to execise my brain, after about 20 minutes I realised that NO I cant do the bloody riddle:hopeless:
September 7, 2006 at 9:59 am #1089109I tried the same GoodDog and came to the same conclusion. It’s like a really really difficult type of suduko. Get Sherlock and Dr. Watson on the case I say:groucho: :groucho:
September 7, 2006 at 10:13 am #1089101I gave up half way through reading it – can’t be arsed to even try :hopeless:
as I know I’ll prob do what GoodDog did and then just stare at it for the next hour  (blankly)
September 7, 2006 at 10:40 am #1089108raaaraaaraaaYeah! I think the Pictionary thing is more on my intelectual level,Is that how you spell intelectual??? My Brain Hurts!!:laugh_at::laugh_at:
September 7, 2006 at 1:28 pm #1089105arhh its bendin my head west, gud effort for tryin it every1  it is driving me to crazy town i keep thinkin how the fuck did he cum up wit this riddle?!?! who owns the fish? random as fuck………..mite try a bit of mind expansion n c if tha helps thnkin outside tha box n all that lol
September 7, 2006 at 1:41 pm #1089111He clearly had too much time on his hands. I tried, I gave up and decided it’s crap, otherwise I’d have to admit I am. :hopeless:
September 7, 2006 at 1:56 pm #1089090I think I got it but it took me 3 attempts and I had to guess one position, it fairly cracked my brain to work it out.
September 7, 2006 at 2:09 pm #1089112What’s the solution then, GL?
September 7, 2006 at 2:12 pm #1089091to solve it its a matter of grouping together the bits of data on a table and looking for the positions that have not been occupied; bearing in mind that certain combinations are impossible..
the statements are not in the “logical” order and it gets harder as you go on….
it took me 3 attempts (starting yesterday evening) – I gave up twice and eventually arrived at the solution by using trial and error for one data pattern.
September 7, 2006 at 2:15 pm #1089113I tried that method but failed. Clearly not among the top 2% in intelligence. Congratulations to you!!
September 7, 2006 at 2:18 pm #1089092the1log wrote:which is?the solution, or the one which has to be worked out by trial and error? I didn’t want to put the solution on here in case others are still determined to try but it can be found by google.
what happens initially is as you go through the conditions you get a “false solution” where some but not all of the conditions are fulfilled.
I reached that point twice, and then tried it again by substituting the remaining combination of data at which I arrived at the solution. I expect there are far more elegant ways of doing it though if you are someone like Einstein!
September 7, 2006 at 2:48 pm #1089110the1log is not a bad judge.:groucho:
September 7, 2006 at 8:04 pm #1089102My brain hurts from thinking about this too much,
nope I cant do it!
Think I’ll stick to what i’m good at.:you_crazy
September 7, 2006 at 8:33 pm #1089096i think that the germans have the fish! worked it out during 2 tracks of biotechs set(and i didnt cheat or look it up, did this all by myself) am i right?
September 7, 2006 at 8:57 pm #1089093yep…. (I wasn’t going to divulge the answer but I think everyone else has given up).
its debatable whether the riddle had anything to do with Einstein (who wouldn’t be writing riddles in the early 19th century as he wasn’t born until 1874!)
September 7, 2006 at 9:01 pm #1089097whoooo! im smart! :weee:
September 7, 2006 at 10:15 pm #1089099hehehe i didnt read the thread til now cos i thought the answer might be here:groucho:
i got the germans had the fish after two failed attempts but it was obvious the two attempts were wrong :groucho::groucho::groucho:
i blame the delay on the huge number of interruptions i kept getting everytime i tried to sit down and finish it 😉 very elegant logic puzzle that raaaraaaraaa
no more please that ate huge amounts of my day :weee:
September 7, 2006 at 11:32 pm #1089106phew for that! lol i wrote the riddle out n when doin so i suddenly had the answer german in my mind wen i finally worked out the answer thas wot i came up wit! pot luck or the the brain workin on a subconsious level? prob pot luck but iv experienced the same thing while doin math and less complex problems ne1 else experienced this?

used to annoy the piss out of my math teachers by telling them the answer to the problem but never needing to write out the method used to get them – they didnt get the concept of being able to look at maths and science stuff and immediately being able to write down the answer :crazy_fre:crazy_fre:crazy_fre:crazy_fre:crazy_fre
sometimes i get this with computers or sound equipment nowadays – i cant explain why i come up with a solution but it works :you_crazy:you_crazy:you_crazy very frustrating trying to explain the basis of my conclusion without concious access to the information involved :groucho:
