September 4, 2009 at 1:09 am #1205700Altern8’s best tune if you ask me.
It always reminds me of one of N-Joi’s best tunes too. Similar style of bassline driven hardcore:

Yeah you are right, they robbed it off 808 State. Sampling was rife back then and largely accepted.

September 4, 2009 at 11:59 am #1205722raaajosh what does the 2 baggers mean, I’m lying or something like that.. Cuss I’m telling you honestly I went to loads of all night raves where the main act’s end up at parties out of there nut’s. That’s totally honest cuss back when it all started everyone drop there guards. It didn’t matter if you were a raver or one of the act everyone was = that what made it so fucking nice when it first started.. “General Lighting you’ll rem and agree with me I think?… but then money, bad drugs, hard-hard-core tech started give rise to wee gangs of neds that on their own could crush a grape in a fruit fight thought if we get wired on E’s then walk about raves in packs of 5 to 10 looking for trouble they were cool. Fucked it all up form happy tech to the hard-hard-core tech . If I was to be honest if I end up at a party where there was always one room playing the most fuckup techno music I would somehow end in that room then Lisa my wife would pull me out of the room as she would say I looked aggressive in my manner . For me hard-hard-core techno and the aggressiveness it took to raves and club night killed it for me and many other.
Look at me and Lisa last night still at it now if I was to be honest…fuck it I’m on my holidaysmuos o(-_-)o’s Album: This what happens sucking lemons..
What a tune can’t stop listening to it “Infiltrate 202 / asterix in space – Altern8”

Yep thats exactly what happened, and looking back on it the good times at legal raves really only lasted about 6 months to a year in the area of SE England I was in at the time (Reading) before idiots took it over. In England though it was a split between happy hardcore and jungle/drum and bass along racial lines…
Unlicensed parties remained fun until 2005 or thereabouts but (in the area where they are still permitted) even they have been marred by a culture of violence and fighting..
September 4, 2009 at 2:37 pm #1205726I knew you would agree 🙂
Look at every one smiling this was when it was happening without any divide on this you tube video
September 4, 2009 at 2:44 pm #1205697yep there was definitely something different about the atmosphere of those first few raves.
but to be fair I think it will be the same for say someone like josh going to his first big rave (whether or not he chooses to take anything there!) and the younger folks I have partied with in recent times seem to enjoy themselves just as much for the first few events…
the only difference in the late 90s/early 2000s I saw is that younger people (especially in the East of England) tended to start younger and burn out quicker. Its hard to explain but it would be like watching a DVD on 3 x its normal playback speed. You’d probably still take in the plot of the movie, but it wouldn’t be as enjoyable as watching it at its normal rate…
September 4, 2009 at 3:18 pm #1205727September 4, 2009 at 3:48 pm #1205732I think I was quite lucky to get involved in the scene when I was young and get to experience some really awesome parties up in the welsh hills – im sure these were nothing compared to the real scene when it first kicked off.
If only those times could come back, when you could just be
I think people have just gotten too cynical now and even those who declare themselves free and open minded make a judgement on those different than them – what ever happened to people coming together because all they wanted to do was feel the music and dance 🙂

I don’t think people even declare themselves free and open minded any more, nowadays you get a lot of people claiming to be ravers who are unashamedly prejudiced – about music, regions etc (for instance East Anglian ravers are said to be “too fluffy” and Scouse people are viewed as scallies) and it carries through to the parties. I went to a big outdoor rave in 2007 and everyone was balkanised into camps from various regions and there wasn’t as much interaction
bear in mind though we who reminisce about the “good old days” are all a bit older, a lot of it was because drugs were so good that they temporarily made people forget all the barriers about culture, age, gender, race etc… but even then the tensions were still there on the comedowns.
But people were slightly happier then because life was happier and simpler. there was recession but there were more british jobs, many of the people now competing for work with us were then either safely behind the iron curtain or thought that the breakdown of this would provide good jobs in their countries. People did feel a bit more optimistic about their lives and also you aren’t gonna care or worry about certain things at 18 or 19 that you will at 25 or 35…
that said before my region went on zero tolerance there have been times when I’ve been at raves very recently (2007) and literally thought I was 19 again, if only for a few hours, but there are definite changes on the bigger picture todays youths have to face and you can’t turn the clock back..
September 4, 2009 at 5:51 pm #1205734Yeah I get what you are saying and as I said I, sadly, am too young even at 27 to remember what was by all accounts the real golden days.
It is surprising when you do touch lucky and find a party that you can really cut loose at it is either people who are a fair bit older (late 30’s) and not really into it any more or the young guns (18ish) who have read about the old times and want to experience it. I find when you get people who are trying to keep things alive they try too hard and it creates a pressure/atmosphere and as you said, people hive off into their subgroups.
If people want to get to a place where we can all just party regardless of any differences its time to stop trying to re-kindle the past and work together to create a future.
Well IMO anyway . . . .
September 4, 2009 at 7:30 pm #1205729Like General Lighting I was about at the start off the golden days and I would say like I’ve already said in this post what I think fucked the raves #14 which he agreed with me. I was a football casual going to the football matches to fight that’s the way it was in the 1984 to 1989. Then E and raves come on the scene and the entire guy’s in the different teams that were fighting each other were hugging each other at raves and that’s no shit! And it seemed like it happened overnight. Like General Lighting says the E where spot on and pink champagne speed so nice a clean. I would get home from a rave and find some times 20 phone numbers of guys and girls with no sexual intent just everyone was = . You will never get this back never you have more luck see a T-REX alive again then the start of the rave scene! I’m sure there are lot of good one for young people that they will love… but 1989 – 1993 was the golden years never to return.

which is exactly what im gunna do raaa
cant get the scene going again without sacrifices and firestarters :weee:
