also, i’d say, look for a field that doesnt have crops in, and where the gate looks like it hasnt been opened for a while!
May 7, 2009 at 8:13 pm #1198677You should go to dorset, to the very coast…. dont ask me exactly where because im not sure, but im sure a little research would find you the place…. Along the coast are some massive caves that you walk out of and then about i dunno 3 meters in front of you is a cliff and then the sea, it would be a fucking wicked place to go camping… as long as you dont want to like, do anything….. its a bit out of the way…. beautiful place though.
music, mushrooms and wonderful people probably a necessity.
really though i would love to camp their rather than before i just walked along the coast.
If it sounds cool…. i might be able to find out the name of the village closest to where im thinkin of…..
😀 happy campin

I used to go camp down there too. Just paid a random farmer £5 to stay in his field for a week. Although it was an intresting encounter as we’d pitched without asking him at first and he approached us one night with a gun and asked what we were doing :laugh_at:

but the general rule is if it is public land – leave it as you find it – dont cause a nuisance, dont have open fires, dont leave litter / human waste and you should be ok

That makes sense, think I will stick to smallish camp sites and dartmore. But of a wimp when it comes to being told to clear off by rozzers/farmers etc etc

May 10, 2009 at 11:53 am #1198665We usually just set up camp anywhere, it gets a bit tricky in the lakes or somewhere busy like that but as long as your out of site you’ll be ok.
If someone asks you to leave just pack up and move and just keep it tidy and you’ll be fine!May 16, 2009 at 1:39 am #1198678Depends where you are. If you are in the middle of chuffing nowhere (like we were when we walked the pennine way), then noone is really going to come and see you…
Basically, camp somewhere that isnt on a farmers field, and is out of the way of roads and you should be fine – we did this for about two weeks. Generally noone will care if you are just off a footpath a short way, provided as I say it isn’t in a farmers field or anything.
But people are right when it comes to the legality of it – though its tresspassing which is a civil offense isn’t it? So if you don’t do something really stupid you will be fine.
