Anyone know if you can only camp in designated camp sites? I am assuming so. If this is the case, anyone know how likely we are to get in trouble if we camp in more random not camp site type places?
or in fact any advice on a camping based road trip to devon and cornwall? :weee:
May 6, 2009 at 9:36 pm #1198661not much trouble at all. you might come across a moody farmer who tells you to move (very unlikely unless your plannin on being ridiculously loud) but there is no way police would even bother to look into it if called let alone be arrested
you can always ask farmer/land owner permission, some are ok if you state you are going to keep it tidy, keep the noise down, leave it as you left it etc.

May 6, 2009 at 9:46 pm #1198666People can camp in my garden if they like, can’t guarantee you’ll wake up with all your original body parts though.

May 6, 2009 at 9:57 pm #1198654I’ll ask my mate tomorrow = he’s a mad camping nut and knows all the bylaws as he often tell me – but I forgotten,
but I think you can camp in lots of places as long as you dont have an open fire and obviously clear up after yourdelf and respect the land (and bring a shovel so you burry your waste / poo )

ah that would be fab if you could ask your friend. Id really like to avoid campsites, they seem to defeat the point of camping for me, or at least, there not as good and favor £.
Thank uuuuu

May 6, 2009 at 10:38 pm #1198667We’re going camping in three weeks time. I have a tent that is bigger on the inside than it looks on the outside. Stole it from the Harry Potter set.

your tents gonna be all mouldy and smelly i imagine – get it out and give it a good wash and let it dry and see how it is then…. if not get one on ebay or check out the shops nearer festie season – they start to do some good deals

(there are stuff you can use to clean it – but google it as some household stuff can stop the waterproofness)
May 6, 2009 at 11:18 pm #1198664I’m going camping somewhere in west cambridge on friday night then going to a party on the saturday night. Anyone else going to this?
Depending on if my mate gets his car fixed.
May 6, 2009 at 11:23 pm #1198652the only place in UK you can just pitch up a tent legally is Dartmoor national park
May 7, 2009 at 8:43 am #1198653some beautifull spots for camping up this way…
its all about gettign those pop up tents as well for me, so good if its raining when you setup…May 7, 2009 at 8:47 am #1198674i’ve camped in a field before. also campervanned in car parks where your not really supposed to. Only once got told off – but they just said we shouldnt be there and we denied knowledge.
I reckon, so long as there isnt a sign saying you will be fined £XX, you should be okay.
