it isn’t fair but they’ve got money and power due to oil so they can essentially do what they want in their country.
The wider problem is the current worldwide consensus that drug use should remain illegal. Countries can get away with this as no one even in the West with any real power is willing to stand up and say that these people haven’t committed a crime. All they can say is that the penalties are excessive.
As for Grooverider, I bet Scotland Yard are rubbing their hands with glee.
They have been wanting to fuck him over since 1989…February 8, 2008 at 2:10 pm #1154755General Lighting wrote:As for Grooverider, I bet Scotland Yard are rubbing their hands with glee.

No matter how many record deals they get or how much “celebrity status” they might have dance music producers are seen as junkie scum (indeed, the backlash is now going throughout the entertainments industry)
I even feel the reason the Evening Star is reporting this isn’t to criciticse the UAE for their laws but to support them (if you consider the angle that they take on cannabis use in the UK)
it is worrying, we are entering a new Dark Ages and it isn’t going to be Islam vs Christianity whatever the media might feed to people.
It is a passionate desire amongst many of the older generations worldwide to roll back the permissive society and actually go back to the way life was in the 1950s..

February 19, 2008 at 12:04 pm #1154756What exactly has this got to do with anything?! pisses me right off.
“The former Radio 1 DJ Kevin Greening died of a heart attack last year, aged 44, after taking large quantities of cocaine, ecstasy and the drug GHB”.
And also WTF?!
“A British tourist, Keith Brown, spent four years in jail for the possession of 0.002 grams of cannabis. Bert Tatham, a Canadian UN official who advised the Afghan government was also jailed for carrying 0.5 grams of hashish and two poppy seeds into the country”.
I read this somewhere else to, the two poppy seeds were found this guys jumper after he had eaten a bread roll with them on at Gatwick! And i think the weed was found stuck to the sole of his shoe! Fuck ever going to Dubai..

to be fair if that country is that strict on drug use he really should have been a bit more carefull or at least his people should have warned him to be extra carefull, i’m sure if he visits there once he gets out he will remember.

February 19, 2008 at 3:05 pm #1154749FFS, its all over the internet and the Foreign and Commonwealth office info that countries like this are harsh on drugs.
I rarely visit Malaysia (and that is my familys and ancestors country) for this reason and I am not sure if they will let me get a visa now because I’m known for class A drug use (even cautions are records for foreign travel)
Even in other European countries you can end up with nasty situations involving people in authority with Real Guns if you break the law there.
we might all slag off Britain but its still a fairly liberal country compared to many parts of the world.
Anyway I expect Grooverider will be deported back to the UK after doing a few months and will just get put on probation/license immediately.
