im trying to get a job soooo
what was the best job you have ever had?
What was the worst job?
August 23, 2007 at 11:34 am #1118688My worst job would probably be:
Sales Assistant for Comet, was my first job (on a payroll :groucho: ) after school. You were encouraged to lie to customers and hassled if you didn’t sell waranties or delivery and installation, we were also told to try and get people to buy stuff on credit even if they didn’t want to.
My best job, well i have liked most my other ones. They all had their good and bad points. I just like the 9-5 Monday to Friday work 😉

August 23, 2007 at 12:29 pm #1118695Worst job. Groundsman at a National Hunt racecourse. Following the Boxing Day meeting, walking round the miles of track in a line, replacing every sodding sod of turf which had been lifted by the horses hooves.   :you_crazy :you_crazy :you_crazy :crazy_diz :crazy_diz :crazy_diz :bad_idea: :bad_idea: :bad_idea:

August 23, 2007 at 1:12 pm #1118699worst job: working in a warehouse, i had to put about 200 shitty 100 quid mountain bikes in boxes in the back of a lorry, stacked up to the ceiling. on my jack. i was only about 17 as well!
best job: putting leaflets through doors when i was about 17 as well, me an my mate did about 10 every day, smoked a zoot , threw the rest away, went home/out, reported back at the end of the day an told the boss how many thousands we’d done. got paid.

August 23, 2007 at 1:13 pm #1118687Worst – door to door selling restaurant tickets to people who really weren’t intrested round council estates.
Best – prob one before this – researching and developing IT soft/hardware for a market research company – was well interesting – just trialling and demoing software all day and reporting on it to the board – plus noone really could say how long testing of demo software should take so opportunity to ‘take my time’ was endless.

August 23, 2007 at 1:22 pm #1118672worst one – admin in insurance company in Reading, mostly processing death claims. Shite industry, loads of office politics and the whole thing in the late 80s/early 90s was totally crooked built on Thatchos “house of cards” of short term market gains
then worked in TV/multimedia industry as a project engineer for a while, started out as quite fun and was almost a “dream job” – I learnt a lot about technology there but because really soulless as what you were actually doing was replacing creative people and fellow engineers with machines (i.e you were taking the jobs away from the people you were speaking to) and then the company fucked up on a gamble they took during the dotcom era and there were loads of redundancies.
My best job is what I do currently. OK may not on the face of it seem like the most “interesting” or “creative” job (all I do is keep computers working and make them count stuff) but its not as stressful as other places I have worked in yet I get paid more, and I work in the country area rather than a city..

August 23, 2007 at 1:24 pm #1118675Worked in a chicken factory as a summer job between 6th form and Collage. Only lasted a couple of weeks, horrible I tell thee!
Best Job, probably a summer job I had when I was 18. Basically doing odd jobs for some old rich bloke. At the weekends we would turn up after a local all night warehouse party (One that used to be on most weekends, a few hundred meters from the Police station, no chance of that these days lol). He would go out, we would do two hours work then spend the day sunbathing, drinking beers he left for us.

August 23, 2007 at 1:56 pm #1118674those chicken factory jobs really are shitty
i did one where i had to stand on a metal platform with 70 carcasses a minute coming down a conveyor belt with their heads cut off. i had to grab them, stuff them onto a peg which went inside and broke the rib cage around it so they would go into a machine that cut off the breast, legs and wings near my feet. the machine would keep getting jammed so i’d have to open up the cage where the blades where and rip out all the carcasses. the broken ribs would pierce my gloves and cut my hands. meanwhile 70 dead chickens a minute would be piling up by my head
my best job is probably the one i have now.. managing a small charity. i work with great people and we do some really fun stuff, plus i’m learning loads
