Think there was a thread about something like this already but hey. I finally got to a point for the first time where a song i’m producing sounds actually O.K. But to give it a bit of something i really want to sample a video on youtube.
What would be the best way of going about this? (i know youtube isn’t the best quality but still curious to how i could do this)
June 2, 2013 at 4:23 pm #1273680Easy option is to set up one PC or a laptop as a player, and another as a recorder. Pretty much analogue sampling (or digital to analog and sampled back to digital). A hardware method that WILL work.
Using a program to split/record the stream should in theory give better results, but yes either way you are a hostage to the original recording volume. A software method that SHOULD work, and I have no idea what add ons, snap ins, plug ins etc are best to rip content from Youtube.
June 2, 2013 at 9:00 pm #1273673I use YT downloader, you can get it for free online but it has one of those tricky “set my homepage to lame.com” trick windows that you have to tell cancel and the install starts. And even then the free version only downloads at like 500kbps and shit Or if you give me your email adrress I will give you the full version for free : )
June 2, 2013 at 9:09 pm #1273674Fuck it here ya go, I have done all the dirty work with it so it should just run the program from the .exe file with no need to install or “register” Download YTDpro -.rar from Sendspace.com – send big files the easy way
it also has a built in converter so if you want to convert the audio to mp3 or wav it will do it for you. I also believe it has a start point/stop point so if you only want one little bit of it it should be nice and quick.
Enjoy.

June 2, 2013 at 9:28 pm #1273684In regard to selecting part of the video for sampling would you just bang it into Audacity or something similar, select the bit you want and then export as .wav?
June 2, 2013 at 9:38 pm #1273675Urm after I have sampled the video I would just save it into my samples folder in fruity loops or cubase depending on what I am using. What are you doing with the sample mate?

That’s how I would do it but why do you want to sample from pootube? The sound quality is pretty bad. Is it something that you can’t get on PB?
June 3, 2013 at 9:28 am #1273676If it is just a vocal sample or something it should be ok.

Because it’s cheaper than hiring a session vocalist and a lawyer to write the contract?

This! I prefer offliberty.com (works on allot of sites)! You don’t wan’t to be ‘sampling’ from youtube as your basically converting MP3 (low quality) to WAV(raw uncompressed samples).
June 16, 2013 at 1:15 pm #1273679i wasn’t sure if you’re trying to get the video or audio from youtube… both will be not the best quality (as others have said)
for capturing audio from internet i use my sequencer (it doesn’t matter which one) and Soundflower « Cycling 74… if you’re wanting to grab stuff quick and then use it in some track its easy, you just switch audio preferences to it and hit record
Soundflower is a Mac OS X (10.2 and later) system extension that allows applications to pass audio to other applications. Soundflower is easy to use, it simply presents itself as an audio device, allowing any audio application to send and receive audio with no other support needed. Soundflower is free, open-source, and runs on Mac Intel and PPC computers.
if you don’t have a sequencer, there are free ones, such as ‘audacity’ – as shown in vid
here’s a vid i used to learn it:

here’s a windows alternative Using JACK on Windows | JACK
