Hey, so im just a 16 year old with no job or anything BUT – i really really want to get some decks.
The only thing is i dont know what to get as a beginner, where to buy or anything or what my budget should be
So yeah, can y’all just help a brother out please?
Also – are they difficult to use, i’ve messed about on virtual dj before and made some pretty decent stuff but obviously thats different.
Also, i’d like to be able to use mp3s which makes me think (well what i’d love to have is 2 stanton t-60’s w/serato. But that’d be really expensive right?) cdjs will be the way forward.
Also advice on mixers etc. and anything else i’ll need please – i have ample amounts of good headphones cause me and my dad can’t stand low sound quality lolDecember 15, 2012 at 10:56 pm #1263971No decks arnt hard it just takes a bit of practise

December 15, 2012 at 11:47 pm #1263970Mate obviously your life would be made so much easier if you got some technics SL1210’s they are the dog bollox. without a doubt, if anyone wants to argue that then I am gonna stand my ground FOREVER. But the cos a fair bit mate. You might be better going for some thing cheap at first. The lesser powerful the drive on the turntable the harder it is to gently match the pitch up/match the beats up. Thus if you learn to mix on them you can mix on anything. technics would be like so easy after that.
Mixers??? you wanna shop around and get the best 2 channel mixer you can find for the money. Also have an EQ on the mixer is bread and butter. We are here if you want any advice on anything you find out there.
December 16, 2012 at 12:23 am #1263973Okay can you explain mixers to me (Fuck i sound like a right noob) e.g what are there purposes/uses, what makes a good one etc. etc.
Hmm i was thinking of just getting some cheapo decks and an averagish mixer to start, i mean im not pro or anything so i dont need the best shit.. but i hope to get to that stage one day.
Can anyone reccomend any decks/mixers for me?December 16, 2012 at 12:41 am #1263972its seriosuly hard to explain thi without standing infront of the equiptment with you lol. A mixer is what allows you to make a tune your own, its so you can fade in/out and beatmatch etc… err yeah this is hard dude. Do you have any pals that use decks to show you,no?
In edinburgh here we have a record store which allows us to go in and muck about on the decks, its voluntary run on charity for the young community here who wish to better their skills, do your research and you might find somehwere in your city that offers these servvices.December 16, 2012 at 1:04 am #1263974Well i do know people with decks but not close enough so that they’d let me jam on them etc..
Meh..December 16, 2012 at 1:12 am #1263969there are various tutorials online about this. it is not easy to explain in text any more than riding a bicycle or driving a car would be.
Also these days controllers are way cheaper then decks to start off with and although the purists don’t like it most newer genres no longer release on vinyl anyway. I started out on decks but went digital as the newer music I like (trance) isn’t released on vinyl since many years. you are better off getting WAVs than MP3s as they are not compressed. also worth learning about audio levels and avoiding distortion/clipping when mixing, whether you are playing on a big rig or a radio station or recording.
