I think I must have been under a rock not to have heard of this movement the ‘English defence league’ – just watched the documentary – and scarey viewing
yet again what seems like a violent racist movement trying to pretend they are not, as oh – they have a few other uk second generaion ethnic members and allegdily their focus is on etremist islamnic groups only. despite one rally their ‘spokes person’ saying ‘……….the muslims when they all fucking burn in hell’ — mmmmm…… :hopeless:
I can understand why some dissaffected, unemployed men are angry and fucked off with the lack of employment / opportunities in their communities – but they are listening to propaganda / false information and blaming immigration and false figues they are fed – when it is more to do with the on going result of the selling off off industries, etc and bad polictical management of the eccomonic structure and decisions such as supporting war IMO.
I mean the bit where their ‘spokes person’ is talking negativley about the impact sharia law has on women and the lack of rights for women under this religious law – when they’re sat in a room with semi naked women on posters out of FHM – is fucking laughable – as if these men are interested in rights for women or anything even closley resembling this – (it also appears they have very few female members) – they are blatenlty cherry picking things they can highlight to support their warped views inorder to pretend they have ligitimate rationales – when it appears alot of their members are just up for a ruck
the few members who appeared in the documentary to be more level headed are IMO idiots for alligning themselves with such a group – when if they are that passionate – why not go throuugh more appropriate lines to lobby government – or are they wanting to be involved in the action ‘without’ actually doing anything violent but still be there for the buzz?
– anyone else watch it?
May 20, 2010 at 12:49 pm #1226153for some this has become the substitute for rucking with cops at raves/protests or footy.
the feds/MI5 found out that in some areas the extreme right were meeting up with local Muslim “activists” and organising fights like what happens amongst football hooligans!
in the 1990s when protest was fashionable these same meathead bullies grew their hair or chilled out and started turning up on the protest camps..

in the 1990s when protest was fashionable these same meathead bullies grew their hair or chilled out and started turning up on the protest camps..yeh, I used to do a huge ammount of demos in the 90’s – practically every weekend and end up at a party – and you always knew who planned to kick off as they would have their faces covered from the start – look dodge or out of place – often under the guise of anarchy
so I’m aware its always happened – its just yet another extreme right wing party pretending to be something its not – they really must be stupid to think people believe the shit that come’s out their mouths –
One of the ‘leaders’ even brought his black daughter on to the program – in an attempt to prove somehow he’s not racist and was ‘hoodwinked’ into supporting the BNP in 2006 – it reminded me of something that prick Jade joody said in her defence when called a racist after blatently being racist on celeb big bro . . . the sort of I’m not I got mates which is black kind a thing. dickheads
mmm, has got me rather riled me thinks
May 20, 2010 at 4:42 pm #1226164Goody good , i will watch this when my pizza is ready .
May 20, 2010 at 4:47 pm #1226161May 20, 2010 at 4:54 pm #1226162Jade Goody was not racist in my opinion, she’s just an idiot.
she said ‘Shilpa poppadom’ if you consider that is thinking she’s superior to her then i’m truly amazed =o yeah Jade Goody was nasty to her but i do not think she was racist in the slightest.
The EDL in theory in my opinion are also not racist at all, i just think the only people who can be bothered to go to the protests and stuff happen to be the wrong people to represent them. But Muslims go out of their way to fight them?? i heard people in my town (muslims) talking about getting all the ‘older’ lads together to fuck the EDL up.
Also one of my friends brother had an EDL related status on facebook (he’s not a nasty person and he isn’t white either) a Muslim threatened to batter him and his whole family if he went to the protest. They have 3 kids under 10 as well.
My guess would be the EDL fighting people go to fight because they already dislike Islam but because Muslims are fighting them at protests now they go and defend themselves by fighting back.
I am not against the EDL, I don’t agree with some of the way the morons act but they don’t represent the whole thing.

This was going on a decade ago even before 9/11, just that EDL or facebook weren’t even around.. there was a recession in 2001 and it all started from there and has got worse ever since. Muslims also fight other Asian religions, particularly in Slough and Reading (hence why TVP wanted fuckloads of cash for the policing costs of Slough mela).
if groups of young men do not have drugs / parties / girls to keep them occupied and jobs during the week to afford these things, (and round here even if they do) they will find reason to disagree and something to fight about..
May 20, 2010 at 5:56 pm #1226165TBH this whole thing reminds me of the orange walk in glasgow , yes the orange walk is for most poeple involved truly about the religion they follow , what they believe in and follow for the correct reasons. Then on the other hand theres all the idiots who use this as an excuse to tag along, get drunk and turn into some sort of loyalist for the day . Using it as an excuse to walk the streets shouting out anti-catholic stuff , whatever other foul abuse comes to theyre mouth’s and in the process cause riots, subsequently ruining it for the people who are there for the rite reasons .
There will always be this factor with many big groups and protests anywhere in the u.k . I have to agree with some of the points the E.D.L make but i dont agree with the way they put them across . If the people at the heart of the E.D.L with the rite intentions go about getting theyre message across in a more formal and official way im sure they will be listened to more and drop the idiots who just follow to fight in the process
May 20, 2010 at 6:02 pm #1226166but yeah , good watch anyway :weee:
May 20, 2010 at 9:53 pm #1226158personally from watching the docu – I do think a hell of alot of them are racist bigots and trying to pass themself off as not – just like the alledged ‘new’ BNP –
As I said I really can understand dissaffected young angry men – but ….. this isnt the way forward,
and i also do see muslims retalliating and sometimes inciting –and yeh – as I said I’ve done enough demos to know infiltration will always happen – at the climate rally I got talking to the surveliance cops and they were monitoring for combat 18 etc,
but ignorance is not an excuse for racism / sexism / bullying etc
May 20, 2010 at 10:01 pm #1226167I would watch this but I think it will just depress me tbh

its worth watching,
I think the guy did a good job of investigative journalism – there are 2 guys on it who seem to have genuine conserns but appear to have been fed some inaccurate figures that instil some of their beliefs, however I would personally question why you would want to allign yourself with a group that has such a presence

maybe I should give it a go then. Hate and discrimination is so easy I guess; compassion, understanding and no simplistic blame-other-people solutions are harder. Education Education Education as some war mungering git once said.

Idiot/ignorant … isn’t racisim just ignorance and idiocy anyway?
May 21, 2010 at 11:59 am #1226155not always. some racists actually know a lot about other cultures, they simply disagree with their right to be part of their community or even exist! These ones are much more dangerous – the genuinely ignorant still have a chance to learn.

but I bet you most English racists are very ignorant and have a poor level of education.

I think that is true for the obvious ones. The cleverer ones don’t overtly show their racism, and often they act otherwise normally but use whatever power they get to advance their beliefs…

good point although how many people are like that and very active I dont know, but then a lot of people are casually racist.
