if you walk doen los ramblas towards the sea, about 2 thirds of the way down on the left is a large square full of cafes and a large hotel, all quite middle class-looking (unlike much of the quirky gothic quarter)
assuming you’ve walked into this square from los ramblas, in the left corner of the same edge of the square you’ve arrived in is a medium sized bar
next door to the bar is a large door that looks to all the world like the main entrance to an apartment building
if you look the part you’ll be invited in
it’s private, but free by invivtation. open all night, grand piano in one room, groovy music in the others, a cheap bar, pool room etc
met some danish film stars there, but it’s not a pretentious place at all
quiet chilled tho; you can dance, but it’s not full-on sweaty stomp style
there’s also a place very close to the small park at the oposite end of las ramblas that opens at about 1.30 and goes on to about midday… two floors and large outdoor patio. was playing the best hip-hop when I was there
or just ask the locals where’s good
