why has mainstream fashion gone back to the 80’s? I thought, of all periods of fashion, it was the most ridiculed and despised. And now everyone’s wearing it! what is going on with the world! Sometimes it looks like its in a dressing up hahaha kinda way, but then sometimes it looks serious…

Not that I should really comment, I looked at myself in the mirror the other day and saw a tramp staring back at me…

and lucky old me will be entering the job market hopefully in 3-5 months, with 3 years not working with mental health problems. I should think getting a job will be a piece of piss *throws up with worry*
oh well, least there will be lots of protesting to keep my busy. Not that I like protesting. There must have been some good things in the 80s right?
May 17, 2010 at 12:33 pm #1225972“He said the government will announce next week how it plans to make £6bn in spending cuts this year, focusing on reducing the size of quangos and cutting IT, consultancy and advertising expenditure.” – BBC News, Budget
that is going to really hurt!!! no way can you make up even a majority of that with “quangoes, IT, consultancy and advertising”.

the good things (such as advances in technology, music and arts) have already happened, and they came on the back of abundant cheap energy and more compliant oil producing countries) which is no longer the case. Also many of the current government are my age and know the tricks of how to stop things like protests or at least dilute their effects.
May 17, 2010 at 3:46 pm #1225955I still got my oversized cashmere hugo boss tux from the late 80’s, it went for 750 pounds then, wonder what that would give me now? I loved the decadence of the 80’s, bring it back on!
May 17, 2010 at 4:03 pm #1225965Has it? comparison pictures please.

I noticed this when at Uni, there was lots of 80s nights and never really understood why they were so popular amongst the younger students. If there should be any retro revival, it should be more about the 90s..

new wave came on a “wave” of optimism brought in my short term gains in the economy and new affordable electronic music technology, and the feds/govt taking their eye off the ball with regards to drugs during economic good times. (similar things happened in the early days of Tony Blair).
Whilst there was bad times such as Thatcho, strikes and the fact the world nearly got blown to shit 3 times during the 80s when relations between the US and USSR deteriorated, it was a more carefree and optimistic time in other respects. Benefits were easy to get (or money from alternative sources), jobs were easy to get, we weren’t competing for work with people in Eastern Europe as the people were all safely behind the Iron Curtain…
that said its actually way easier to get into making music today than it was 20-30 years ago, its just that the download culture has permanently eliminated a lot of the revenue from music sales.
the fashion revival is actually more from the late 70s to early/mid 80s than the late 80s/90s. In Ipswich it is like being in Ashes to Ashes as if the 90s never existed (sadly the lad going missing in town, the club shootings and prostitute murders meant the rest of society said “enoughs enough” for much of the nightlife..)
May 17, 2010 at 6:49 pm #1225969saw Top of the Pops 80’s special the other day, some AWESOME tunes, 99 red ballons anyone?
