I’m having a problem with Audacity.
I’ve been recording a rap, managed to get the arrangement of the lyrics right over the top of the backing track but now when I try to record the vocals for the chorus I get an error message: “Error while opening sound device. Please check the input device settings and the project sample rate” which basically means that I can’t live record over the work I’ve already done.
I’ve tried exporting the separate tracks as a wav and loading that into a new audacity project and recording over that but I still get the same error message.
Please help as I need to get this track down.
October 11, 2012 at 9:31 pm #1260465Have the sample rates/soundcard settings got changed? or maybe there is another instance of audacity open trying to seize the soundcard, or perhaps some other audio program?
unfortunately I don’t do much live multitrack production other than layering stock samples to make something like a radio jingle and tend to work with a single stereo track at a time but my experience is audio apps are notorious for fighting over devices and doing stuff like this. As a last resort, restart the PC so that you know 100% only audacity can be using that device.
October 11, 2012 at 9:33 pm #1260468Yeah, tried that. It’s weird. I can restart the PC and open audacity and record no problem but as soon as I open this project I get the error message. Even if I open a seperate incidence of audacity once my project has been opened, I get the same error message.
October 11, 2012 at 10:07 pm #1260469I’ve managed to sort it. Just un-installed the bugger and re-installed it again. Now it’s working fine.
Should be able to get “Ginster’s Paradise” uploaded by the end of tomorrow! :weee:

Did you un-install Audacity by “Add/Remove Programs” or Uninstall the sound card from Device Manager?
Would be nice to know which you did, that way can advise other people. I suspect it was the sound card (device drivers can get corrupted) but I’m not sure.
Good luck with the project! 😀

Just un-installed the application using “Add/Remove Programs”. Downloaded it again (might have been a more up to date version) and installed it again.
