Dj in a box is their shitty belt drive system with everything you need to start djing hence Dj in a box… you can get direct drive decks fairly cheap nowadays and you’re better with direct drive.. check out http://www.decks.co.uk and http://www.djdeals.co.uk an http://www.djsuperstore.co.uk amongst others for them…and look in your local papers we have the yellow an blue pages that people sell things in dunno if you got anything like that.. can get some good deals on 2nd hand ones
January 18, 2006 at 8:05 pm #1068449I had this discussion with the rest of the K32 crew a couple of weeks ago (this crew is made up of about 5 different rigs whose crews have been raving for years) and the opinion was the direct drive numarks were fine for bedroom mixing use. I’ve used them myself and they seem OK
They were more problematic when used at parties/events as their build quality was not as robust as Technics (bear in mind that rig kit is subjected to a lot of punishment both in operational use and transport).
There’s another thread about Numark decks on here..
January 18, 2006 at 11:56 pm #1068454definitely dont buy brand new, for less than the price of one decent deck, i got a pair of sick decks and a mixer. they were gemini pt2140’s or something, limited edition, would cost 375 a deck when new i got 2 and a good mixer on ebay for £215. its good cos gemini i overlooked as a professional turntable manufacturer, so their best decks ( on par with the best numarks and vestax at the time ) go well cheap. or if you want new, numark used to make these flex decks, but updated the model, so they sold all there old stock to ministry of sound. dont be put off by the name. they are the same proffesional level decks and can be picked up for 260 each . as for mixer cheap and cheerful is the way you dont need all the extra functions really
January 19, 2006 at 9:18 am #1068452i avoided getting the ‘dj’ in a box as it was belt driven but i think the numark one i got was the battle pack and i’ve had absolutley no complaints. i’m a beginner and they’ve been fine for me but make sure you buy them off the internet and not from a shop as they are about £100 cheaper!
January 19, 2006 at 10:38 am #1068450i got a pair of numark TT6625 thrown in free with a good mixer i bought second hand
they are fine for home use, not tough enough to be chucking about at parties tho
whatever you buy, buy direct drive, not belt drive
January 19, 2006 at 11:15 am #1068453Numark T T 1520 Direct drive turn-tables
