Well I basically just procrastined myself into a foxhole over the past week. Now I have 3 and a half hours to write a 750-1250 word speech about the battle of stalingrad. Basically I’ve also lost all ability to write that I once had, (if you call the crap I used to write in my freetime literature that is). There’s no-chance anyone would be able to throw some lines out to inspire me, right?
December 7, 2010 at 1:12 pm #1232407There is loads of stuff on google about it. Don’t cut and paste everything but you could probably get some useful stuff, particularly odd bits such as Der Rattenkreig (the continued bitter fighting in the Soviets sewer network)/
Unfortunately my interest in military history is more centred around the Asia-Pacific area (as my family lived in Malaya which was occupied by Japanese), and also signals/comms/encryption stuff in East Anglia (both WW II and cold War)
on the subject of signals and interception, bear in mind your college ICT staff can read partyvibe too and will know you’ve posted this….
December 7, 2010 at 1:17 pm #1232414I got an A* in history, second best mark in the school. No I will not help. :p

The speech writing is more important than the actual history anyway.

It’s A level language I’m doing. I swear if I had a time machine I’d go back and tell myself to choose a subject I actually know about, and for gods sake dont make it a speech!

December 7, 2010 at 5:33 pm #1232413How can you get an A in English with your spelling 1984?
December 7, 2010 at 5:55 pm #12324081984’s spelling isn’t that bad – anyway by the time he would have been doing a-levels, exam boards didn’t mark people down for spelling and a lot of coursework would have been submitted as word processed (and already spellchecked) content.
December 7, 2010 at 5:56 pm #1232396Anonymousyou get marked down in physics now if you can’t spell. i say that this rule is pants.

I made a list of all the words I find hard to spell but used a lot in essay writing, then underlined them in the reading texts we were allowd to take in and then just copied them down. So that helped with a few of the nasty but clever sounding ones. I was very surprised indeed!! only got a B for lit which was my stronger subject I had thought.
oh and I used to find structuring essays quite easily, that helps. I also practised a lot.
how I got an A* in history when I could only remember 5 days was more impressive I thought. 1 Mark off the guy who beat me and a handful of marks (if that) for a perfect score.
December 7, 2010 at 6:05 pm #1232418I failed french though. Drew round my hand on the front page in big thick pen and then wrote “I am a Fish” all down the page and then put my head on the desk until it was all over.
God I was somehow massivly geeky yet thick at the same time, go me. I think a tiny part of me hoped that the marker was a Red Dwarf fan and would at least have a little chuckle.
December 7, 2010 at 6:15 pm #1232397AnonymousHi 1984 ,

they were lax for years but since the war started the govt put in all sorts of old style rules on education. what must be really confusing is the names of chemicals (particularly those of importance to the pharmaceutical industry) have different spellings depending on where in the world you are.
IUPAC, the NHS and the US pharm industry have 3 names for the same chemical :crazy_diz

in my high school I got moved up a group, instead of the better looking female teacher I got this strange French/Turkish chap with extreme right wing political views (he’s dead now – all the hate and anger got to him and he had heart attack). but there was a good looking girl in class who was also keen and a leftie (as most youths were in the 1980s) so I did quite well raaa
December 7, 2010 at 6:34 pm #1232399AnonymousHi General Lighting,
yep similiar experience there was this girl Kerry Martin i fancied her all the way through school . Never got the courage to ask her out , wasnt till i left school i found out she was just waiting for me to ask her out ….duh .regards
MungoDecember 7, 2010 at 6:37 pm #1232411in the end though the girl in the French class thought my lifestyle was too “wild” as I’d just discovered raves/drugs etc by 1990…
December 7, 2010 at 6:45 pm #1232421I went out with someone who’s entire friendship and 5 day romantic relationship turned out to be a joke at my expense. That was my only school romantic relationship.
So I have infact only ever had 1 girlfriend my whole life (hardly a surprise I know).
