It’s really similar to jujutsu, (out of the 9 schools we learn i thing 6 of them are actually jujutsu schools), but because my teacher used to be a body guard, so we learn loads of other stuff too. We learn katana and staff stuff as well as stuff with guns, knives, and bodyguard techniques etc. It’s pretty cool, and my teacher is safe.
Ah, Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu. What lineage are you under? Rare to hear a senior grade call it Ninjutsu 🙂
Theres some things in the curriculum I would love to learn at some point.
Especially Ninpo Taijutsu of the Togakure Ryu school. Have you studied any Santo Tonko no Kata? Happo kiri gakure gata would be awesome to know, as well as Sakkijutsu. If I recall correctly, I don’t think any of the 9 schools are JuJutsu.
3 Ninjutsu,
2 Koppojutsu,
1 Koshijutsu,
1 Jutaijutsu,
1 Dakentaijutsu,
1 Happo Hikenjutsu. It sound’s as if your Sensei has incorporated some modern techniques of his own. Your not under Soke Masaaki Hatsumi lineage are you?

August 4, 2007 at 8:07 am #1117320Studied Kenbuchai for 3 years, never found any references to it anywhere but basically it’s like systema crossed with kick boxing and anything else that is effective, used to get quite messy as semi often lead to full contact and the fight wasn’t stopped if it went down to the mat, bloody good sensi and people I trained with, too far for me to travel to do it these days so I’m thinking Norwich is going to be my next best bet. Mind you, I need to up my fitness levels before hand, too many nights and mornings wandering round trying to figure out where my brain has gone and whether I really want it back

Mudstomper – Never heard of Kenbuchai. Modern art?
What are you looking at studying in Norwich? We have a whole range. Try the Kokoro-no-Kai Oriental Arts centre first, everything from Bujinkan to JKD to Ving Tsun. Or my Kwoon is just down the road too, studying Choy Li Fut Gung Fu and Yang Style T’ai Chi Chuan. Let us know how you get on 🙂August 4, 2007 at 1:32 pm #1138021neb wrote:Currently learning Jeet Jun Do in Nottingham, Bruce Lee really was a genius. Haha, yea i say Ninjutsu because it’s a bit less of a mouthful, and if i say Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu then i usually get a blank face in response, but yea thats what we learn.
We do stuff with Shuriken and stuff like stealth walking etc, but not too often, generally in classes for higher grades, and we learn Sakkijutsu as well, but its usually incorporated into techniques or in specific exercises every now and again. I talk about sakki to some people and they say it’s bullshit(i mean people who don’t do martial arts), but it does work (though i’m by no means brilliant at it).
My mistake, theres no jujutsu, but there are similarities in some of the schools.
Yea the class is under Soke Masaaki Hatsumi, and my teacher organises trips to go and train with him in Japan, but i haven’t had the chance to go yet.

August 4, 2007 at 3:30 pm #1117340Oh yea, and i would like to start learning some sort of Kung Fu, but it seems really badly taught around here. Theres a class that happens at the same time as my ninjutsu class, and it seems rubbish. The teacher seems apalling and i once heard him puttiing down someone who was obviously new to the class when he found out they’d done jujutsu. He started trying to “prove” that it was rubbish, despite the face that he was blatantly talking bollocks, and the face that his general technique is shit, and i can see that even though i’ve never done Kung Fu. I may be wrong but there doesn’t seem to be much good Kung Fu classes near me.

I used to be a 2nd brown in Goju Ryu Karate (1st dan…I think). Havn’t done it for years though, teenage life got in the way of training. I’ve been thinking of starting up again but in a different style, havn’t decided what style yet but I’m thinking something a bit more full contact.

What martial arts do you do?Fair enough. Would love to see some Sakkijutsu, a true talent to learn that!
Would be quality to train under Soke Hatsumi, let us know if you get the chance to go!

I have no respect at all for teachers that slate other Arts, there’s no need for it at all. There’s strengths and weaknesses to every single Art.
Bujinkan and Gung Fu would be a very interesting mix indeed! Unfortunately there’s no schools under my lineage near Cardiff. I don’t think Choy Li Fut and Bujinkan would be a very good mix to be honest, as they are both amazingly huge Arts. CLF has about 200,000 different forms in total!
Maybe Wing Chun though? Very effective, and don’t see it getting in the way of your main Art. Very popular, should imagine you’d have a Kwoon near you.

August 4, 2007 at 4:09 pm #1117316I agree for full contact either of those.. although having done Muay Thai i’d have to say go for that but be prepared to be permenantly covered in bruises.. lol
People used to ask me why i never wore a skirt.. well 2 reasons 1 i ain’t a girly girl so u’ll more or less never see me in one.. 2 doing Muay thai u end up with bruises like you wouldn’t believe at times so not very nice to show..
I think more people should get into martial arts as they not only keep you fit but they teach discipline which is severely lacking in todays society.. I’ve seen kids off the street start training and their outlook changes they no longer want to go out and start fights even though they’re far more equipped to do so after it..

I agree, taught correctly Martial Arts does a world of good for some people. The discipline side is rarely seen taught today unfortunately. Good when you see a very traditional school taught with the Taoist/Buddhist principles still intact too. It’s a big part of Martial Arts that a lot of people don’t even realise that it’s there, which is a shame.
Agree with the Muay Thai bruises too, after a sparring session with a MT fighter it looked like I came out very much worse for wear, although it was a very close contest. The conditioning you guys go through is unreal. A well struck shin is like getting hit with a steel pole!

August 4, 2007 at 4:43 pm #1117309definitely a movie script in here..
so far we’ve got
the feisty Scots lass… (Acidfairy)
the wise “new age” type (Globalloon)
the big bloke who is thinking about food (BioTech)and someone from Wales wanting to learn new skills
Instead of “Journey to the West” (otherwise known in its popular adaptation as “Monkey” or “Monkey Magic”) you could have “Journey to the East” :laugh_at:
