Right how can you injure yourself with a can of compressed air?
I managed it….accidentally turned it upside down and sprayed my hand with sub zero liquified gas that has frozen all of one of my fingers. Tis sore.

April 20, 2008 at 11:00 am #1160935yeah thats really dangerose … apart from the frost bite ..compressed air is bad cos it can pass through the skin and get into your blood stream … and if that happens you can get air bubbles in your blood stream … but you would probably be dead by now if that happened …still best to get it checked out by the quacks 😉

April 20, 2008 at 11:28 am #1160912Well as far as I see it the black tissue is dead already and has been removed with a pen knife the rest is fine. Therefore no need to go to a doctor.
I don’t trust the bastards its a bit too close to religion for me….you go in and they tell you that you need something to make you better and thats that. No explanations of what its doing juts they know best. I have had enough of the crap thats happened to my friends and family because of knowitall doctors.
Anti depressants ruined my mum, nurses made my mates last few days in this world as distressing and confusing as possible for him, they’ve banned so many useful thing due to the money involved in teh drugs industry etc etc.
Also my Grandad died of a serious chest infection having been ill for a while….but what caused it? A piece of swab/tissue left in during a previous operation that the doctors didn’t bother to mention until my mum (a dentist) looked at the x-ray and demanded they explained what it was.
I know they do their best hence not not filing for the £10k compo that the staff nurse said we were intitled to for the negligence but I still don’t trust the doctors.

It’s a point of view I guess, seems a bit fucking stupid to me though. Doctors know what they are talking about, maybe you just got unlucky? Anyway, my second cousin was saved from a hereditary heart disease at Papworth, they performed a heart transplant which AFAIK is extremely difficult to do… I certainly don’t think they are all shit. Quite the opposite, in fact.

April 20, 2008 at 1:50 pm #1160910For a “minor” injury like that you’d be more likely just to be looked at by a nurse if you did present to ED (maybe the doctor would check you over)
The wider problem with the NHS is that its overused and underresourced.
About 95% of my UK family work in healthcare, some in NHS, some in private facilities.
Apart from the obvious pyschos like Harold Shipman and the nurse who was doing human experiments on old folks (and these can get into any industry), most NHS staff genuinely want to make people better.
There are mistakes made and internal politics but it happens due to the sheer volume of people going in and out and the stress these staff face.
NHS staff also often have to deal with abusive patients etc and each such incident removes a bit more of their “caring” ethos, people will become burned out and cynical. Even then they still do their best
The people to blame aren’t the hard workers but the scum who fill up emergency dept every weekend through their own stupid or violent acts (no, not genuine accidents but those who stupidly overdo alcohol/drugs or fight in the streets).
A relative of mine works in a ED in SE England and he sees some proper carnage, and 70% of it was avoidable if people had exercised a bit of self-restraint.
These idiots are the ones sucking up the doctors/nurses time and energy to the point people become so tired that mistakes are made what affect the good people who require treatment.

Quite the opposite, in fact.I duno if you read everything I said or if I just worded it a bit wrong as I was just up but I understand they can do good but when it comes down to it people rely on doctors and medication far too much.
I’m not saying that we should perform our own open heart surgery but for minor ailments I don’t see the point in going to a doctors. I mean every time my mum used to take me with whatever wound I had managed to inflict on myself on the farm or in the woods the doctor would give me antibiotics….now I am immune to the common ones and when I get seriously ill there is fuck all they can do. If the doctor hadn’t told my mum that there was a massive chance of me dying of septicemia then she wouldn’t have let me take them. Same goes for my grandma…an over zealous doctor prescribing too much antibiotics and now she can’t fight off any infection with or without the aid of antibiotics.
I class freezing my finger as a minor ailment so I’m not going to the doctors. I mean last time I went was with a broken arm and when they x-rayed it they discovered 3 breaks that had almost healed and the fresh one….and they gave me a sling. If they’d me they were just gona give me a sling when it happened I would have gone home and made one myself….not sat arround a fuckin hospital for god knows how long.
Anyway I’m not denying good quality healthcare is very handy but I think that our over reliance is destroying our bodies ability to function on its own and that doctors/medication should be a last port of call not a first.

April 21, 2008 at 12:30 am #1160924ElRetardo I agree we shouldn’t go to the doctors for petty things, however the point I was referring to was this statement:
“I don’t trust the bastards its a bit too close to religion for me”That sounds like a bit of a generalising attack on a group of people who mostly do a very good job.
