I think I’ve done the same as Binge but the other way round, moving from the scene in SE England and London to East Anglia
everything other than raves in my life has been really good since moving here
I’ve got my own house, a decent job, can be hectic at times but still OK…
I did check out the Norfolk rave scene with an open mind, and in all honesty I found it to be no worse than anywhere else, met some good people through it but have had the sense to distance myself from the worse parts and the same problems do happen elsewhere in England and Wales
If you can’t remember a rave in your area being shut by riot cops in recent times you are probably too young – either you haven’t been raving for that long or your area got locked down ages ago (or raves never happened there because cops had enough resources to stop them)
and if it aint’ cops the overuse of ketamine and other drugs are fucking over people everywhere
and I’m starting to behave like a normal citizen these days and am perfectly happy with it..I’ll still stick up for those in trouble what don’t deserve to be in shit but I don’t suffer fools gladly and I’m not going to knock around with another load of people slowly self-destructing themselves
I definitely think for me music and partying are going to take a back seat from now on (had been scaling things down since 2006) but I won’t abandon them altogether…

I do plan to (hopefully) go to India so that is one possitive to look forwards to at the end of the year,
but work will remain the same, I’m pretty ‘settled’ in most apsects of my life
other than the occasional mad spurt
but I am happy with what I do in general,
make time for myself, am doing an annoying course that will (thankfully) finish this year and plan to go to a few partys and festies and hopefully meet a few of you along the way :bounce_fl

People now know that there are actually quite a number of good rigs in norfolk now, ok a VERY small number in comparison to the totaly shite ones but it shows we’re getting better. We all get tarred with the same brush, but i reckon the tar is slowly dripping off.
Hell, i’m from Norfolk and i reckon i can say that my small system is pretty good.
I realised this morning that it isn’t just the rigs. Was being a bit ignorant. It’s the whole attitude as well. FUCK THA PO-LICE etc etc
Well hopefully the up and comming generation will change stuff for the better, and i’m not talking about just Norfolk.

there’s a history of civil disturbances across East Anglia dating back to the 1800s and before , and a bitter mistrust of authority
also a lot of stubborn, headstrong people who are good sound people but some who would fight to the death over a grudge they had in middle school or on a wider perspective of what they believe in
http://www.easf.org.uk/wiki/index.php?title=Radical_regional_history
but in recent times its this sort of sullen directionless anger..
I’m originally a Londoner and I don’t believe all the crap about “sleepy Suffolk etc” – I don’t feel unsafe at all (like as if people are gonna jack me) but I sense a lot of anger on the streets as if it would be constantly about 20 minutes away from a riot were it not for the CCTV and cops checking up on everything..

your “friends” will often run up stupid amounts of tick debts and will they be there to back you up when they feds start knocking at your door?
now I wont’ go on about the “moral” side of it because I don’t even think that drug use is immoral, but the other harsh reality is that in a normal business environment worst that could happen is usually that your rivals can only grass you up to your boss or may be a govt regulator
in the drugs trade they will be perfectly prepared to take your life – although this is less common on the party drugs networks it does occasionally happen (as well as reprisals from local vigilantés, often dads/brothers when a young girl has gone a bit sketchy from the drugs you sold her)

I don’t know the job market well enough up north but TBH you don’t come across as the sort of chap who would be happy in an office (although you clearly have the brains to do that sort of job, and its the easiest way of getting “just enough to get by” and do a bit of partying)
I think the only “creative” job with any guarantee of regular work would be in printing (especially takeaway flyers) as this tends to be locally commissioned and its not cost-effective to outsource it to other countries (its ironic who ethnic owned businesses are often the ones supporting local British industry!)
