I’d wondered myself why these annoying insects exist in the ecosystem but they also pollinate flowers and eat some smaller pest insects that would otherwise attack plants.

However those and filth flies are the only bugs that if they enter my house and do not leave quietly are killed on sight, as both present an immediate danger to my health (I am allergic to the stings).

Anything else is liable to be captured in a small plastic box (so it does not get accidentally squashed) and released in the garden (I might photograph it if I have the right camera/lenses handy and it is a interesting species).
