Keep it simple. Theres lots of packages that will do what you want. Some easier than others.

Im on a mac and use “iMoveHD”, some examples of what ive done are here :

If you dont have a mac then have a play around with “Windows Movie Maker”. These programs are the easiest to use at making movies in my experience.
