I’ve been advised by a fair few dancehall/reggae DJ’s that there is a big scene in DE and NL, even in the rural areas. This is partly because in the 1960s it was safer to be a black person there than in the USA, added to the widespread growing and use of cannabis.

There seem to be a lot of reggae festivals in rural areas of Germany and similar places in NL like Groningen (where even EDM events are discouraged) – so it would not be surprising that the hairstyles of these reggae performers may have been influenced by those of Northern European men.

The practice is if you have hair to flaunt it, those who are thinning either have some bizzare hairstyles involving the use of a quantity of hair products that appear to be purchased in 200l drums monthly, and those who are bald just accept this and grow a beard/moustache if they can, or wear a hat (often with a goose feather in its peak, but even the North European gander often suffers from a genetic condition that these feathers can be bald as well and he can’t fly!)
