I’ve got the Walkman-looking thing with the micro-usb port on it, works pretty well man. Converted an old Carl Cox hardcore set recently, been enjoying listening to that since!

Thats actually a seriously good idea! I was thinking about how i could go about sampling a TV show the other day.

Be aware – some PC sound cards put snap, crackle and pop onto input sound.

Also, some are limited in that you can have Surround Sound OR an input, but not both at the same time.

2nd hand sound cards are dirt cheap though. They’re not that pricey new either, although it’s ALWAYS a lot of money if you don’t have the money.

Proper old skool analogue tape deck, heads cleaned, and aligned properly for azimuth feeding a good quality sound card (needn’t be really pricey, even a £20 Behringer USB ASIO card does the job).

Stick a £5 cheeseweasel special (ground loop transformer) between the tape deck and the soundcard if you get PSU interference from the computer (though this is more likely from digital sources with SMPSU and most analogue tape decks have linear PSUs)

Remember that tapes came in a variety of forms, Ferric and CRO2 and metal and some have dolby NR and some did not

Audacity is really good freeware, though there are ways of getting hold of a older version of Adobe Audition free if you put in some research…
