Ok, I’ll let you off then. You came close to a slapped wrist then though. Why do people say that, a slap on the wrist? Pretty random body part to threaten violence against really.

Haha that is random, just like the saying, “break a leg!” like where did that come from!?
April 25, 2013 at 7:02 pm #1272483Loggy makes me laugh. That is all.
April 25, 2013 at 7:09 pm #1272482I dont laugh at my logs, I sometimes gasp in wonder at what the fuck I ate that made me create such a snake, and occasionally I have to poke them with a toilet brush to make em flush

Well it is used to mean you don’t want to do something and a broken leg is a pretty justifiable excuse for not doing a lot of things. A slapped wrist isn’t likely to teach you much or prevent you from doing something though is it. I feel like I’ve let myself down by responding sensibly there 🙁

That may be what it means in your crazy northern world mate, but down here it has always meant ‘Good luck’. I think it’s an old theatrical saying/superstition, kinda similar to the ‘Don’t say “Macbeth”‘ bollocks.

Yeah you totally lost me with that bit.
I am the Grammar Nazi and master of linguistics. I’ll say things in whatever context I mean, don’t question your master subordinate!

Eh? How did I lose you with that? Seems perfectly straightforward to a sensible, southern mind! :laugh_at:
You may be a cunning linguist, but when you are the only person who says things in a particular context, you will appear odd to others! What you need to do is to send in your recommendation for a new meaning of the phrase to the Linguists Committee, they will then bring this up at their next meeting, a vote will be held and as long as it’s ratified by the customary 2/3 majority, then you will get your wish and everyone will be notified of the change of meaning of the phrase. If they decline it, you will be fed to MBP!

So they know where we can locate MBP? Why didn’t you disclose this information earlier soldier?! Quick follow this lead, Someone contact the Linguists Committee.

Yeah, like G-tek said, where I’m from it means Good luck, so it’s pretty ironic.
and why have you let yourself down?
