I can’t get enough of this guy, look at his face when he hers nice audio kick.
February 25, 2013 at 8:49 pm #1267825I totally agree with what he is saying but its ironic that he has been miked so badly with that fucking cheap “Britney spears” style mike which is barely tolerable for a skype call (it is way too close so even the windscreen isn’t worth shit) and picks up all the breath sounds to the point he sounds like Darth Vader..
Surely they could have given him a decent tieclip / lavalier type mic and put it through noisegate and very slight compression?

I know right!!
All the other speakers that day had the same issue so don’t blame poor tony. As you say they should have given him decent gear.

he probably had no control over the kit used but it proves his point… especially when this was held and filmed in hipster central…

Yeah, was waiting for they guy to come out with his bongos. I forget exactly what type of poetry im thinking of. The very hippy type with turtle necks and berretts
February 25, 2013 at 9:31 pm #1267827I’d even put up with it if they would produce decent sound quality for their performances.
I grew up in probably what was the best time for pro audio in the 1980s/1990s – what Tony Andrews says is spot on. A mate of mine who is only a couple years older and works also with ICR-FM is always looking out for new talent on soundcloud and we were both bemoaning how so much otherwise good content has to be rejected because the audio quality is not fit to broadcast on the radio due to clipping/distortion…
it gets even worse with guitar bands and loudness war. Once (when there was also a lot of bad weather) I even telephoned the studio thinking the band I antenna (this is on the studio) had actually got de-masted in the wind and we were transmitting pure noise onto our FM frequency but some shoegazer kid was playing out directly from youtube. There is now a big warning in the studio against doing this and if it happens again I am going to reroute youtube.com on the playout computer to 127.0.0.1 to put a stop to it…

Playing straight from youtube?!? Anything below 320kbps is a travesty, and youtube is 128 generally, as far as I recall. 192 at best. I hate how bad sound quality is now. I can see why it was in the early 2000s with the need for compression for MP3 players but we have so much storage now 320 kbps/wav should not be that hard. The Loudness War is also a bit of a tragedy. I happen to like dynamics, mixing engineers…

May 2, 2013 at 6:45 pm #1267832How odd, it says that there is a new comment by stryker but it is nowhere to be seen 🙁
