My mate told my about this yesterday. Its basically like a huge urban treasure hunt that you do with your smartphone. All over the world there are these hidden ‘caches’, and they are literally everywhere – I found 4 within 500m of my house today. People hide something, then post rough GPS co-ordinates online and a clue to the exact location of it. E.g. today my phone took me to a busy train station and there was a film canister with tiny magnets in it clipped to the underside of a pedestrian bridge over the tracks. It’s been there for years too without anyone nicking it – you just had to know where to look. Usually there’s not much in them other than a little book to write your name in and maybe some random toys and stuff, but its pretty satisfying to do.
Geocaching – The Official Global GPS Cache Hunt Site
You can do a postcode search on here and it will come up with a map showing all the nearest ones to you.
February 21, 2013 at 9:02 pm #1267665I’ve heard of it before mate, but never participated.
February 21, 2013 at 9:17 pm #1267658Yep heard of it and looked into it, but never done it
Looks great fun though!!February 21, 2013 at 9:25 pm #1267654Heard of it ages ago but as my handheld GPS unit (that sometimes is on my bike) is set to OS grid reference (as it was used alongside proper UK maps) rather than lat/long never bothered with it. Might give it a try if I am at a loose end in town as my blackberry does lat/long by default, not surprised its had a resurgence thanks to smartphones…

Might make my own one and leave some “pressies” in it and mark it as 18+ on the website listing it lol. Na I’ll probably just go hunting for the close by ones.

Lol I had the same thought myself. Or creating a private network of strategically placed pots of drugs around Bristol.
