      This surprised me – I would have expected him to use an AKG, Senheiser or similar European microphone!

      I can understand though why its still wired on a old 1970s style gooseneck, if it wasn’t connected well to God’s Good Earth there are so many pirates and even legal stations in VA and IT above correct power (even Radio Vaticana) that the feedback and noise would be worse than the blare of all the angel’s trumpets at Revelation.. 😉

        You would think they would have forked out for something a bit more fancy. Well at least his isnt using one of them nast looking (but good sounding) blue yetti mics. Well they are general for home recording, but pretty much every youtube producer ether has one, or aspire to make enough youtube dollars to afford one. Like they are the hioly grail of mics. Well apparently not, seems this old shure thingy majig is the pinnacle of mics

          I like SM58s. They’re reliable, give ok sound and can take quite a beating.
