      Need an answer asap If anyone knows plz as I need to get CAI set up tomoz if poss and he wants to have a fiddle about with the sound routing in his sound card with edcast or (insert program name here) before to try and get his software and hardware working along side each other.

        TBH I’d obtain or borrow a PC (needn’t be top spec but just not full of crapware) with a reasonable soundcard and dedicate it to edcast (feeding the mac into the soundcard via analogue audio cables) but I assume that CAI isn’t in the same place as you..

        Maybe Seonaid has got some better ideas for streaming software….

          This is what we’ll do I think, we were trying to work out the best way to stream, and if edcast wasn’t for macs then the next option was to run his mac into his gfs laptop and use that as a dedicated edcast client if no other program was good and easy for mac use. AF sais it’s a pain to use a mac to stream so probably best to do it this way. If it’s a newish laptop that’s not a really budget model it should be ok for streaming.

            best to use external soundcard and get a cheeseweasel special type transformer (they are only a fiver from CPC) as if its into the mic input that will be way overloaded/mono/have a DC offset on it and ground loops can be a nightmare on newer laptops from the mains filter…

              He’s got an external soudcard, but that’ll be plugged into the mac. I’ll ask him if he’s got an old one he could take as well for the lappy.

              Apart from that butt software looking aesthetically like something that came out of it’s self, it looks like it’s up to the job feature wise, although I have no idea if it’s glitchy or buggy. Are you online for long? I’d like to test it and run a quick stream to see how well it works (It works on windows too).

                unfortunately gonna be off to bed soon as I’ve got to sort out ordering two more computers and the accounts databases for work tomorrow but should be able to test it out sometime tomorrow – plus if you’re not running it on the kit you’re using for the broadcast you could still run into some obscure issue (believe you me I’ve seen enough people learn this the hard way at ICR-FM when they bring in random external drives, laptops and all sorts else with 10 mins before their shows).

                  Yeah as I posted that it was running through my head that the windows version may work differently from the Mac version with regards to reliability. I’ve spoken to CAI and if he wants to use his Mac to stream, then we can test the reliability of it along with everything else when he does his test.

                  I’ve been stressing to all the DJ’s as I’ve tested with them that the test stream needs to be done with the exact set up they will be using for the actual stream (if possible). I’ll be around for almost all of the streams to make sure it all runs smoothly, but I don’t need unnecessary butt aches. :laugh_at:

                    The answer is ‘butt’ as GL mentioned.
