      good evening!

not sure if anyone can help but having a small get together/party outdoors and was wondering the best way to get electricity to power basically a hifi. looked at borrowing a small generator but seems more than we need. heard you can rig up a 12v car battery? essentially want to simplest way to get a plug socket outdoors for abut 10 hours.

      thanks 🙂

There’s barely enough power in a car battery to boil a kettle afaik and it’ll draw alot more amps at 240v. You’d probably have to keep charging the battery (depending on how much power your stereo eats) and also need to get an “inverter” for it to work, Something like this http://www.maplin.co.uk/300w-dc-12v-to-ac-230v-power-invertor-48723 .

Couldn’t you just get one of them portable stereo systems that are designed to take batteries?

I’m sure I saw a speaker thing on the gadget show, its like a mini stack but has little troll wheels and is really quite loud, don’t hold me to it but I think there like £100 or so.

they are easy enough to make based around audio amp modules used in cars etc. The issue is carting around (and charging) the lead acid batteries normally used. check also that there aren’t local byelaws prohbiting the use of amplified audio equipment (I notice you are in Scotland where laws are different).
