I was discussing in the chat with several people and am bringing the questions I was asking there here as I think you guys may be able to help us out:
The subject under discussion was the most effective way to communicate with existing pv members and people who are not pv members to bring listeners to the live stream :weee:
Any ideas are welcome, open to discussion and all help anyone can offer us to raise the profile of the pv live stream as we try to get our live schedule up and rolling again is gratefully received. raaa
Any comments relating to visibility of the stream and the chat are also of interest – have been putting out links a lot as I have found them hard to find – do you share my problem or are you a techy ninja who can always find the live stream when you want it?
Currently we have two weekly shows on pv radio which are up and running and a few more are being worked on
The current ones are midweek mash up with up with UTI which is on a tuesday from 9pm onwards and Raj against the machine on a Sunday from 5-7pm
This week UTI and Taiko djs will be stream sharing over the weekend to bring you banging tunes all weekend live from our decksraaaraaaraaa
August 24, 2011 at 2:29 pm #1243776How about some kind of embedded player at the top of the page with a big play button on it? I’m sure this is easier said than done though – I know nothing about web design

We had some kind of that before before(with linked player symbols), and i think you might be right that a frontpage/banner player had been damn cool for the live channel only.
August 24, 2011 at 3:50 pm #1243772We have a whole page of pv radio streams (7) of which the live stream is only one – can you find that? [this is not an idle question btw – I am interested in your answer}
August 24, 2011 at 4:13 pm #1243768With some reading, yeah, so I urge that we frontpage that live channel. To keep the radio alive!

It took me ages to work out which one is the live stream. I’m on the ‘radio’ section of the site and I see 8 partyvibe radio streams under the ‘party vibe’ tab. I guess the live one is the ‘live shows + shows archive’ stream, but initially I interpreted that as being an archive of old shows. That stream should be at the top of the list at the very least, not buried in the middle of it all.
I rarely bother with the radio, it’s just not something I ever think to use (I have no excuse tho – there’s blatently some banging music on it, it’s just a couple of clicks too far). The ‘forum’ link is saved on my computer and I only ever click on that – I don’t look at any other part of the site. Which is why I think if there was a big ‘play’ button displayed prominently on the masthead at the top of the page lots more people would listen to the radio.
August 24, 2011 at 4:21 pm #1243773Thank you cheeseweasel – that’s a very valid point and we obviously need to work on the live stream visibility :flowers:
August 24, 2011 at 4:50 pm #1243763has anyone checked if the stream works with players for mobile devices? nu-perception can do this (albeit at a very low bitrate sometimes to avoid running up data charges away from wi-fi).
One issue I find with Internet radio is that it is linked more to being sat at your PC than traditional radio sets / hi fi which can be used in the living room, kitchen etc (unless you want to cable your entire house or distribute audio across it by other means). it may also mean people can listen “on the move” at least in city areas where 3G signals are plentiful.
August 24, 2011 at 5:09 pm #1243769I have tried out my mobile her in DK in the city on 3g and at home through wifi with no probs at all, going down in bit rate means crap sound and that is not the way forward…I think. I rather be out of radio-music(I have 16gb of storage on my nokia, (very small and not too smart) X3-O2) than listen to it at low bitrates, it might work for a news/talking radio but not for music, if you take music seriously.
August 24, 2011 at 5:22 pm #1243764I think there are two links on nu-perception – a normal bitrate (for areas where you can get this) and a very low one – it might also be because not all areas of the UK have a decent 3g signal.. I vaguely remember there also being devices like a conventional small radio which could pick up internet radio but haven’t seen one lately…
August 24, 2011 at 5:26 pm #1243770BTW I found a dutch classical radio station that streams in 320kbps, that I love!
(I found it originally at ;Classical Radio Stations if you go here you can see the low bitrate for mobile devices, too low for what I would spend my time on…)
August 24, 2011 at 8:36 pm #1243774Thread hijack sinner :p *tut tut*
back on topic please – we need the answers the members can give us about promoting the live stream raaaAugust 25, 2011 at 5:08 am #1243771Ups, sorry.
August 25, 2011 at 10:13 am #1243765what I would suggest is both a flash player and a simple “one click” link which triggers off the music player on folks PCs, in a prominent place and set to resize automatically so it can work on tablet PCs, android devices, even folk what decide to build a Linux-enabled teasmade with Internet radio etc..
August 25, 2011 at 5:29 pm #1243775Has anyone else experienced problems tracking down the live stream?
August 25, 2011 at 6:42 pm #1243766When I last played on the radio a couple of months back, I struggled to find out what stream URL I needed to promote. The radio page isn’t 100% obvious and “in yer face” like I think it should be. That said, I do like the fact that we have a wide selection of streams.
I’ve always thought there should be a blatant “look at me!!!” type banner that is displayed in a prominent place when we are live but I think that’s not totally straightforward for Bunsen to do and also there is a space issue. I think it would increase the listening numbers considerably though.
August 25, 2011 at 9:07 pm #1243762Anonymousen embedded player just to the right of the PV logo or under the read post count would be a good way of making the radio part more prominent
August 25, 2011 at 11:47 pm #1243778I only ever goto the stram from the links in peoples sigs who are playing cos I’m quite lasy when surfing the web, if it’s not blatently there infront of me i just wont bother.
A player on the main page like b4 would be great.
