Im soon to purchase one of the 2, i prefer the idear of vinyl but loads of pepole seam to have swaped to cdjs. i can only imagen a vinyl colection would be bulky and fragile? i will be living in a van hopefully within the next year would vinyl put up with cold or damp?
March 3, 2011 at 6:14 am #1235883if you’re gonna be living in a van get CDJs, vinyl will take up sooo much space.
March 3, 2011 at 8:57 am #1235885Dont bother with either, they are both pretty much obsolete (12″ def is cds not far behind)Whats your budget ? If its a big one (fnar fnar) get a decent laptop/soundcard/ MIDI controller then ride the crest of a high and beautiful wave into the future.

you use a laptop for mixing?
March 3, 2011 at 9:41 am #1235886Not yet , I do not have the cash prize monies, but as soon as I do thats where im going with my mixing , Nothing new is released on 12″ (I do collect old acid trance/goa trance but they are in various conditions its very rare to find anything in mint condtion) Prog Psy and Psy trance is pretty much all released in FLAC.
March 3, 2011 at 11:12 am #1235889i have a macbook pro and a budget of about 500 dolla right now
i realy dont understand the consept of mixing with cds
vinyl mixing seems so cool compared to cdjs but i dont wana have problems because evryones mooved on
March 3, 2011 at 2:16 pm #1235888Vinyl wins for sound quality and joy of mixing, can’t beat a nice heft turntable with big torque and a vinyl.
However it is expensive and takes up a lot of space to have a vinyl collection
If you’re thinking of going digital why use CDs at all? You could just do mp3s with traktor and a set of MIDI turntables, they’re getting pretty good nowadays
March 3, 2011 at 6:16 pm #1235890think its gona have to be vinyl then

Depends on what your into playing ,if its all old stuff then you’ll be ok, but should you wish to play new tunes your going to be stuck, as I have realised !
March 4, 2011 at 7:37 pm #1235891jungle, drum and bass, dubstep, dub, regge and allitle hiphop
March 11, 2011 at 2:59 am #1235882Alot of d+b/jungle still comes out on vinyl … and if you do get vinyl decks you can still use something like serato and mix mp3’s from your laptop on vinyl decks using timecoded vinyl.
July 29, 2011 at 10:13 am #1235877AnonymousBoth vynils and cds are dying slowly but surely. Traktor or Serato are the future and actually even the present ..
July 29, 2011 at 10:28 am #1235892i wish i’d started off with and learned how to mix with turntables as everybody i know who uses them seems to be religous about not using cd’s so it must be decent.
after using cdjs for a couple of years now i dont really see the point in vinyl. as long as you get the records properly (ie. 320kbs on juno or trackitdown etc.) with good sound quality then it’s all good. certain types of techno are really difficult to find on mp3/wav though and are only sold as Vinyl. 🙁
August 4, 2011 at 7:02 pm #1235880for me its vinyl as the acoustic range is so much better, cds only if I cant find it on vinyl or found it as flac
{personally laptops are banned from my rig unless they are running a properly lossless audio format and a high end sound card – mp3 is a cruddy format and sounds crap over full frequency range rig}
we still have live sets playing but they do it with hardware, sound desks and sound engineers – no laptops there eitherAugust 4, 2011 at 7:48 pm #1235878Stand alone sound card is a must, yes, for sure, both for proper gain and clear/depth of the sound. After i got this t.c. electronic with optical hook up….it have to be heard, it is like night and day

we never looked back after the first standalone soundcard and the current one is a lexicon omega which is excellent – has xlrs and everything :bounce:
August 4, 2011 at 8:20 pm #1235879mine is an old one but the price was free due to a minor defect (one of the mic in channels which I never use 🙂 ).. its a t.c. electronic konnekt 24d and have midi in out, big jacks and modern twist connectors, fire wire controller and of course optical coax and tos link….
