Why does this forum get so much spam?
December 31, 2009 at 10:34 am #1221883because we are friendly and multicultural and don’t just block every post from China like some other forums do.
Its also a genuine culture clash, many Chinese just do not realise in Western social gatherings you do not just walk in and try to sell commercial goods, because this is actually tolerated in many Asian countries.

December 31, 2009 at 10:44 am #1221884don’t worry – its worth leaving my post up there as a friendly warning. If people can write enough English to post their adverts I’m sure at least some of them can read what I have written and if it gets through to just one person I’m happy.
we don’t want the fake shoes/clothes adverts, and they are as illegal to bring into our shores as weapons or illegal drugs – but I know loads of people what make their own clothes who want material and other bits and pieces. Young Chinese people could legally sell this over here, especially in UK and Denmark which are near the sea, if they made friends with the European people – and that way they wouldn’t get blocked from all the internet forums and have their shipments confiscated by the customs authorities (who know they are full of illegal fake goods).

December 31, 2009 at 4:08 pm #1221885wouldn’t worry about it, its a valid subject and maybe some of our foreign friends might realise the effect they are having
there is actually a technique called “racist routing” you can deploy on websevers where you can keep a shitlist of countries responsible for spam/scam posts and not let them anywhere near your website! although its not very “nice” I think eventually it does work as most countries communications ministries are usually also linked to trade and industry ministers and they realise that their nation cannot do legitimate online business if they are on a internet blacklist, and slowly start clamping down on spammers.
If you tried sending spam with a British ISP you’d last a fraction of the time some other nations permit it…
