November 16, 2008 at 5:56 am #1187476Just about everything :weee:
November 16, 2008 at 2:47 pm #1187456I’ll give anything a go too but I guess my favourites are:
Dub, ska (both original and 70’s revival), reggea, hip hop (old skool to the new), and I also love 40’s/50’s style classics from the likes of Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, and old musicals like sigin in the rain or anything by Guilbert and Sullivan… I am great fan of the one-hit-wonder and of random wierdness like Dr Demento (they’re coming to take me away), I had a short phase of listening to Punk when I was younger, my first concert was Shakin’ Stevens and my second was The Pogues, but I still say that my all-time number-one favourite band ever has got to be “Dr Teeth and the Electric Mayhem” (has to be the best name for a band ever!) and my only lifetime regret is that I never got to see them play live.
Basically, I am a big fan of music generally and try to stay open minded as long as it kicks!

Ok, firstly the norm…
Oasis/Arctic Monkeys and the likes even older stuff from the Beatles/The Who ect ect.
Quite alot of oldskool hip hop and and some rap. Not fond of RnB or new Hip Hop though …
I especially like REM and red hot chili peppers too.
Now for me embarrassing love… 80s! Yup, 80s pop… Got into it through playing GTA Vice City funnily enough, then enjoyed a wicked night at my dads wedding when I was younger, proper havin it to some cheesy old pop!
I tend to keep those for drunken home listening though 😉

November 16, 2008 at 11:32 pm #1187457Anything as long as it’s good music…
If I had to list favourites it would include the likes of Floyd (natch), Hendrix (also natch), Led Zepplin (again natch), Hawkwind (see previous), REM, The Jam, Cabaret Voltaire, Radical Dance Faction, The Ministry, Meat beat manifesto, Beastie boys, Public enemy, Carl Orff, Tchaikovsky, Pop will eat itself, Dubpistols, Stranglers, Magazine, early Duran Duran, Queen, Thin Lizzy, The Specials, Public Image, Thrill kill cult, Gaye bikers on acid….
That list would get awfy long if I had time to think about it….

ditto,
(along with shellac, fugazi, pj harvey, pavement, all sorts of ska / beat, american punk rock (nofx / nomeansno) ACDC, motorhead, some folk, some classical, some ‘big band’ 40’s – 50’s type stuff, dean martin / sinatra etc etc)November 17, 2008 at 5:11 am #1187458Tank Girl;245638 wrote:ditto,(along with shellac, fugazi, pj harvey, pavement, all sorts of ska / beat, american punk rock (nofx / nomeansno) ACDC, motorhead, some folk, some classical, some ‘big band’ 40’s – 50’s type stuff, dean martin / sinatra etc etc)
Yup – a bunch there I didn’t think of straight away (couple more off the top: The Stones, Lou Reed, Frank Zappa, The Kinks, Echo and the Bunnymen, Martha and the muffins, Undertones, Ian Dury and the Blockheads, The Cure, Fields of the Nephilim, Small faces… Like I said – awfy long list…)
The only criteria is “good music” – I don’t tend to pan something without listening to it, and certainly not when based on some salesman’s idea of what goes into which pigeon hole so they can keep their shops neat…
And the exotic names for those pigeon holes just gets ever longer and more ridiculous as they go along – so what started out as “rock” split a million times, and you end up with these “new” forms of music (like hard-death-grunge-chainsaw-air-guitarists-wet-dream-core (which then turn out to be not new at all, but just a long winded re-branding exercise)… Was much more interesting when you had just the term “rock”, and that could mean anything from the Beatles to Boltthrower)…
