well for a 20 metre radius around my house anyway..
I managed to get one of those cheap “FM transmitter” (like what you use for listening to MP3 players/Ipods in the car) as a freebie with some office supplies..this ones got a multiple power system, either USB power, 2 x AAA batteries or a cig lighter adaptor (for the car), so I’ve got it plugged into the PC here, and its now relaying PV radio across Band II (FM frequencies)
I even left it switched on when I went to the doctors surgery today and listened to the FM radio on my mobile (which isn’t the best reception), I could still hear the signal halfway down the street! (probably a case of “yo ho ho and a bottle of piss” :laugh_at:)
There’s enough RF power on this kit to wipe out BBC Radio Suffolk and Radio 4’s TX’s
I won’t be doing this on a regular basis though as the neighbours might think its a bit rum 😉 but otherwise its 100% legal provided I don’t deliberately use it to interfere with other stations
I checked up the laws and there is no risk of Mr Ofcom knocking my door (the same applies for all you EU citizens)
TX powers supposed to be only 50 nanowatts (a normal pirate uses 20-250 watts) and I haven’t done anything “naughty” (honest, Mr Ofcom ) to increase this or even put the TX high up in the roofspace so that is a really impressive range – it covers the whole house which is what i want… (i do wonder if its because the signal is getting injected into my network cabling and working as a big antenna…)
Dunno why but there’s something more magical/impressive about hearing the sound coming from your radio receivers rather than the PC speakers (apart from the fact I can move around more in the house/eat/etc like when I was listening to “normal” radio…)

i plug my sound card into my stack system and play music like that on my sterio from my pc… but that would be very “authentic” to have it on the good ol’fassioned fm dial :weee: ..
i used to want to get one of them my self as if i was to be in my kitchen i would have to turn my sterio up really loud to hear it prperly and would probably anoy the nabours more then radio black out for 30 mins whilst i make my tea:wink: -
