June 5, 2008 at 9:21 am #1044687AnonymousI’ve had an email from somewhere advising me that a place in the USA had a fire where the servers blew up and hence a lot of web pages were down.
Here is a cut n paste of the email
Hello **edit**,
You may have noted that during the weekend 31st May until 2nd June, our service has been temporarily down.
We felt it right to contact you to advise of the reason for this downtime, and to report back to you on current status.
At approximately 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, we noted problems with connections to our server. By the following morning, our concerns lead us to investigate further.
Our investigations lead us to find out the following information. At approximately 9:00 on Saturday evening, our server host, The Planet, in Texas had suffered a serious incident.
A transformer had shorted and the subsequent explosion had blown away 3 walls and had taken out power to thousands of servers in the process. This incident has caused no personal injury or damage to servers, but had left many thousands of worldwide websited down because of the power failure, us included.
They have been keeping all their customers updated by this forum, and we can finally advise that all systems seem now to be fully functional.
We must advise that no loss of data within our server has been found, and should add that, as all payments to us are made through a 3rd party, no personal data has been compromised whatsoever.
We ask that you log into your account (link disabled)to test your account. If you need help please feel free to contact us.
Whilst you are welcome to use the link at the bottom of this email to unsubscribe from future notices, we suggest that you consider not doing so over the next couple of days as we may need to contact you with further updates.
Finally, as your membership with us is based on a monthly or yearly duration, we are asking that, if you have felt the effect of this downtime, to contact us where we will gladly extend your membership by 1 week to cover the 2 days downtime.
Thank you for your patience during this difficult time.
