A thought I just had (put here so as not to give “them” ideas)
the Norfolk feds are talking about reselling confiscated kit – the impression they give is that they are going to resell the lot rather than just the stuff what is “normal” (such as gensets, cables etc) and destroying the sound equipment (which is what Suffolk/Essex claim to do)
of course my immediate thoughts were that surely people will buy it back at the Police auctions… which makes me think, could they be intending to put a few RFID tags in some of it before it goes back on “sale?”
This could be a perfect way of them being able to eventually work out where it ends up and could be linked in with that new law about it being made illegal to cart around sound equipment without licenses
worst of all I reckon its feasible in this area as there are only so many routes in and out to Lowestoft, Yarco, Ipswich and Norwich, a limted number of legal venues all of which are under CCTV on the approach roads and often the towns, and the traffic flows are always monitored 24/7 on camera just by councils/cops for mundane reasons such as being aware of jams and accidents..
in my experience when a new law like this is proposed the cops and whitehall do a test run of enforcement methods before it hits Parliament..
feds round here have also had a ton of practice of keeping a close eye on the vehicles associated with travellers in the wake of the recent double murder investigation (one pikey killed two decent travellers) and the clampdowns on metal theft (this was what got kan busted, not even the rave!)

what it is planned to do is create an offence of organising a rave and a further one of transporting equipment to a rave.
of course, this second offence would be unenforceable without some method of ascertaining whether a van load of sound equipment is intended for a legal event or not, bear in mind there would be loads of places like legit clubs or even the end of the pier show with a requirement for PA equipment…
if they are going to do anything rum with RFID tags etc I reckon it will happen before the law is passed as a semi-covert op to work out what they are up against..

I know loads of cyclists (across Europe) would often stop and attend raves (at least briefly)) as they were training and came across the event.. (the bulk of them were supportive provided bad parking didn’t cause any hazards)

this is actually more worrying as you’ve actually got a Tory MP cooperating with a Labour minister and the Police, they definitely want to make some change to the law….
If we go by how quickly some drugs laws have been changed it could be on the statute books in time for the winter season or spring 2009
incidentally a reliable source tells me that Suffolk constabulary are working with the squaddies (who play the part of the ravers) for riot training – they use two main scenarios, one is closing down a rave and the other is dealing with a town centre disturbance – they know people are angry because of the lockdown and are readying themselves for when/if the disaffected youth actually take to the streets..
