i have a fantastic job where i am able to help and support people everyday, its why i chose to do the job.
but recent staffing levels and demand has meant that the last few weeks i have been seriously stressed! i end up missing my breaks, running round like a blue arsed fly and ending the day feeling knackered and like i failed to help the people im actually there for as im too busy!i know i do a meaningful job and i truly care, but i wonder whether i am really doing any good because the demands on me are just too much.
maybe i should just jack it all in and take a nice shop job….
so what do you think guys? are your jobs stressful too? is it worth the stess to try to make a difference?

its not nice feeling stressed and feel all the work is too demanding. I feel like I do most of the routine clearing away stuff which is getting really boring as its just me that gets it done so I can go home on time. Not fair when other staff are not helping and having conversations with each other when youre working your ass off!
Hoping to get another job soon which will probably give me something better to do than just tidy up! I love my job(playwork) its best av had (I used to work in call centres:hopeless:) but when your the one doing alll the work it can feel awful, so I understand what you mean.April 22, 2008 at 12:15 pm #1218956pinkfairy wrote:i have a fantastic job where i am able to help and support people everyday, its why i chose to do the job.

April 22, 2008 at 2:41 pm #1161088Are you friendly with someone who is a bit higher up to talk about how much you love your job BUT you are finding it stressful and why?
I know what its like to be stressed… eventually you will get sick and its hard to feel motivated. When you put everything you have into something it sucks when you feel your being run into the ground…
Is there a reason WHY they havent hired anyone even temporary to help pick up the slack? The further a team of people working together get stressed and demoralised the quicker everything seems to become harder and disintergrate…
If you love what you do.. stick with it, especially if its only a temporary thing.. but we all know managers, bosses (ok not all) will take the piss regarding work hours and get something for nothing if they can…
definately sound out how your feeling with someone.. HR? Supervisor?
Good luck!

This is often a sign that your company is going to go tits up fairly soon. happened in a place I worked for, went from being a dream job to a complete fucking nightmare in the space of 3 years, to the point I was glad when I was actually laid off and spent the last year just using the companies resources to boost my IT/tech skills and blagging what I could from there (and TBH even the bosses didn’t care as morale was so low at that point!)
Maybe thats more how blokes deal with it, and other more drastic methods – although of course torching your employers premises after robbing the place or beating up the boss will eventually get you arrested even if you take steps to hide forensic evidence.
Of course this isn’t perhaps an option for company what deals with people, it is somewhat more difficult to re-sell clients children or elderly relatives in Western nations – not much of an easy market.
Id start just using the works PC’s to do your CV and making a list of what skills you could transfer to a competitor.

my job is similar –
(and I am guessing in more ways than one )
poor staffing, ever increasing workload, at times making it risky, additional increasing paperwork and policies, statistics that are enforced upon us that only make the pressure worse, poor communication and lack of support between other agencies, at times rubbish work collegues who dont pull their weight and get away with it (for whatever reason) meaning ‘controll freak’ me does it as then I know its been done…..etc etc
however on the whole I enjoy it and get great work satisfation at times
I couldnt do shop work – the one time I tried it lasted 3 months and I left before I was asked to ….. 😉
It is a big big business and despite what we and our line managers try to do this mainly comes from the top – (out of our controll)
but we try……
best way to change a system is from the inside – is my motto……April 22, 2008 at 5:21 pm #1218953pinkfairy wrote:iso what do you think guys? are your jobs stressful too? is it worth the stess to try to make a difference?

best way to change a system is from the inside – is my motto……April 22, 2008 at 6:24 pm #1161086I am currently doing very low stress work [partly due to having been so depressed I decided to take it a bit easier than I generally do] but really enjoying it as most of it is manual labour of some kind [gardening, bricklaying, etc] which I am going to do alongside a degree in what I normally do [accountancy] so I can get paid the market rate for that when i go back to it [currently getting about half for the lack of letters :you_crazy]
