I’m just like any other person on the rave scene and nothing special,

OK I’ve survived a few years on it and not done anything too evil with regards to drugs/crime but there were times when it was a close call and I could easily have picked the wrong path…

there are loads more people who keep this place running including some unsung heros who do a lot of the technical stuff…

Sure, there are some unsung heroes on here, but GL deserves to be sung about. Indeed, there was a time when he could have gone t’other way, as did several of mine and his friends from around this way (can’t answer for his new mates, in his new patch).

Always quietly picking up info and knowledge, I’m glad he now decides to share it. I wish I had a bit more time and inclination to put something back into the scene that spawned me, my crew, my rig and our parties.

All I can say is – big up the new rave leaders, and thanks to the likes of GL, Globalloon, Raj, Biotech etc for sharing some knowledge, sense, and ideas.

I havn’t really posted on here all that much but I check to see whats going on on a daily basis and GL’s post’s are always a joy to read :love:

They may be longwinded :laugh_at: but are informative, amusing and he seems to look at things in a perspectative I, for one, would have never considered.

Just out of interest-Why ‘General Lighting’?

now I know how Matt Storm felt when after a rave in about late ’03/early 2004 (the glory days of Thames Valley raves) everyone gave him three cheers (poor chap was proper embarrassed)

I used to set up the electric for ravers and squatters

so I didn’t get blown up/shocked (especially with 400 volt 3 phase power) I’d make notes/diagrams of the wiring system, and then switch on the smallest circuit breakers first (so there is less of a BANG! if something is short circuited)

One of my sets of notes (from a squat in Reading around 2002) said

“A1/6A/General Lighting” (this means 1st panel, circuit 1 , 6 amps and “General Lighting” is the electricians’ term for the normal lights in a building)

and thats where the name came from..
