go travelling (this year, or at the start of next year
go to uni or other education
stay in job, or find another job (dont really wanna do this)
problem is with education, i dont know what i wanna do in the long term, trying to get into uni is coming to an end for this year(i think), also ive had nearly 2 years gap year (before and after a levels) so i will be 20 when everyone else is 18 coming up 19 (i dont wanna be old man booth),
my other option is waiting untill next year(but then i will be 21!!!!!!!!)
i dont have a clue
please help or give some advice

January 14, 2008 at 8:48 pm #1152002what do you actually want to learn (and what have you already studied?) there might be something that can help you in later life.
TBH it doesn’t matter if you go into college or uni at age 20 or 25 or even 35 these days. Its not like high school where everyone is the same age in each year. There are lots of mature students in most institutes of higher education today.
With hindsight I think if I had gone up at age 26-27 I might have stayed in uni a bit longer, although (and it may surprise those with preconceptions of me) academic style learning and exams have never been any good for me.
Also depending on the career you want to get their may be on the job education available.

January 14, 2008 at 9:42 pm #1152003TBH you may as well make use of easy/cheap travel whilst its still there. Try and at least learn some of the language of a country you are planning to spend significant time in though..
in only a few years time depletion of oil reserves is gonna hit hard, and international relations will deteriorate further meaning borders get locked down a bit more (which may make some of the more “interesting” tourist destinations somewhat more risky)

maybe, but as far as oil prices/markets are concerned peak oil may have passed, and prices for air fares may have risen (its also possible there will be more “eco-taxes”)
I can’t easily predict what is going to happen with international relations (in other words, which country the USA will go to war with next), nor the effect on the world this may have, but it doesn’t look good. Certainly Iran is a potential target, and Iraq hasn’t exactly been a walkover.
The US economy is also not in a good state. bear in mind a massive economic collapse in the USA will also affect travel availability as lots of Western airlines are backed by US capital.

good old bush administration has been stirrin shit out of nothin with iran for a while now
israel vs. lebanon war, i reckon the usa were hopin that would be the catalyst for an invasion of iran, fortunately it quietened down before they got a chance

January 14, 2008 at 10:02 pm #1152022If you’ve got the means to go travelling, Go for it before it’s you get tied down or the politics of oil start start prevailing in the way Gl quite rightly point out!
You’re only young once! All I want to do is go and explore the world with a few mates by my side.
I can see what your saying about being an olde when you go to uni though. I’m 20 and in the 4th year of A2’s at college and it’s really depressing being around a bunch of metalheads who are generally as mature as the fresh sneeze over my laptop screen…
But having a gap before uni would outway the downer of being around exitable first time stoners in the first year of uni for me. The world is a big place and being stuck on one little island scares the living crap out of me.
So, just follow your desires mate:love:You’ll always be able to take out loans to cover the costs of ed. no matter how old you are but (although i dont know what its like to grow old) I imagine there’s a limit to the extent of crazy antics to be enjoyed.
What are you hoping to study at uni?

unfortunatlely i think something is going to kick off in that part of the world.
Now I’m not an expert on aviation/flight routes/paths etc (I think shortylila knows a fair bit about this though) but I have nasty feeling the bits where the war will be are going to be bang in the middle of all the routes to “interesting” destinations that people like yourself may want to fly to.
of course its possible for international air traffic controllers to divert flights into safer areas away from the conflict theatre, but that will obviously cost more.
although I am not sure if it the air conflict will reach the same levels as world war II, TBH it probably won’t as wars are fought “by proxy” in poorer countries, but there wasn’t a great deal of passenger travel back then! (it had just started (at least for the rich) but was stopped as the resources were diverted to the military.

January 14, 2008 at 10:25 pm #1152009if you can – travel,
alot of my more ‘financially secure’ (richer parents ) friends took the ellusive year out after college / uni and its only now at 31 I am able to afford to save up and have begun to go away a little..
I do think I missed out on certain experiences compaired to them –January 14, 2008 at 10:25 pm #1207212if you can – travel,
