sorry for this rant just wanted to chat about this on here where I can trust people, don’t want to phone my mates as they are already gutted about what happened

went out for the first time in weeks last weekend and it was all a really good party – good rig, no cops

but then everything starts to go tits up…. there was generator problems but that got sorted, but it seemed one sketchy idiot misfuelled a genset (a hire one too 🙁 )

Then some chavs were trying to nick phones and other stuff. Another bunch carried out a vigilanté attack on the car of someone what had been robbing bikes/houses in Lowestoft (the reprisal may have been justified but FFS why take this beef to the party site? ended up with the smashed car dumped on the site :hopeless:, and i bet its owner grasses to the feds and tells them “I got done over at an illegal rave”

Then when the party is coming to a close rather than have last tunes at 14:00 everyone carries on for an hour, predictably it takes fuck loads of time to put the rig back in and it is becoming dark (I did help them but the loading was all proper sketchy, they had to do it twice..

To cap it all one of the lads proper rolls his 4×4 on the way out due to driving on the track at excessive speed – 3 in hospital, fractures and one with spinal injuries, possibly serious/life-changing.

Everyone was shellshocked after this rave rather than being “tired but happy” (understandable if you witnessed a RTC) My new friends from this town are already becoming jaded/burned out which is a shame as they are so young and due to politics loads of people from our local crew recently have pulled out (including two girls who were both intelligent and good looking)

My mates are also seeing that when things come to the crunch a lot of friendships are superficial rather than real solidarity, and/or people have no fucking sense of responsibility

Plus the court case is still hanging over people from this summer..lso some of the other stories I heard about overdoses and crashes proper spun me out, they weren’t exaggeration but from people I can trust.

Its hard to explain what I am feeling but even if I was younger I’d still be worried – for me its becoming more like doing a tour of duty in war than a fun weekend…its not just one party but a few seasons full of sketchy incidents, not just in Norfolk but SE England when I was still living there.

Its all proper doing my head in now and I currently feel like I can’t be arsed to go to anything anymore, free or legal.

Not that I don’t still enjoy partying but the risks outweigh the beneift – the amount of money I’m spending is starting to concern me as well, my brain is still fucked over even on Tuesdays even if I take time off from work, and theres the paranoia of not wanting to get nicked in this county – only place i’ve lived where the cops don’t really know me but if I do get done its a small world and it brings a lot of shit down on my family..

Seriously thinking of staying in at weekends and studying or even doing overtime for work at weekends.

I think that very soon thats it for me when it comes to raving – 1990-2007 is a fucking good innings when it comes down to it, I’ve been putting it off for years but maybe its finally time to settle down..

(I’ll still be on here of course)

I can understand where you are comming from,

I dont tend to go to ‘illeagals’ these days as I just cant risk getting nicked,

and I stopped alot of my other ‘party’ behaviour for that reason and also as I was going a bit mad on it (big time paranoia – thinking I was being followed etc)

and as I think I’ve said before – ‘gang’ stuff, faces getting slashed, guns, people getting bottled etc and I live in suburbia !!

friends lost it on H, my sister got really ill, etc etc

I still love to party but tend to go to friends houses and they’ll get the decks out, or pay to go to clubs,

I’m really looking forwards to the PV meet if it can be arranged as most people on here seem really safe – and if I’m goona travel I wanna party and not have the hassle of getting closed down….

I know exactly what both of you mean..

For the past year I’ve really calmed down on the whole party thing. I used to be at nearly every party that went on during the summer but now i’ve had to re evaluate things for a number of reasons.

One my health, my blood disorder stops me from taking certain things now and I can’t go out and stay up for 3 days kicking the arse outta it partying anymore.

There were a series of not so well organised parties where the police turned up and I happened to be playing at 2 of them when the cops turned up.. No one admitted to organising one so my details were taken and I was threatened with a least a charge of breach of the peace if i was there when they came back..

Some of our party sites have been rinsed to say the least and there’s only really a couple of crews that are looking sensibly at sites an planning the parties properly.. we’ve had someone fall from the top of a quarry and injure their back at one party where an ambulance had to be called and had the police an dogs turn up at another.. Someone got their 4×4 stuck at one as well coz they were going too fast too loads of silly stuff.

Some people just don’t respect the sites either.. they leave the place with rubbish lying all over the place, some bag it but still leave the bags there.. that really hacks me off, you should leave the site cleaner than you found it.. end of..

I’m finding now that I’m happier having some mates round doing the radio etc on a weekend having a wee party in the house with the decks on where its warm.. i have cool neighbours that are sweet bout the tunes etc than to go pay a fortune in a club or go to a party where i risk getting done.. I totally can’t risk that any more.. i work in the financial services sector and i’m currently studying for my financial planning exams.. i can’t be an IFA with a criminal record..

I still love my parties like mad.. i started in 1992 but some people just shouldn’t be allowed to run them..

sorry to hear your weekend went wrong GL and i hope everyone in the car makes a full recovery

i’m not sure things are any different to how it’s always been though.

when i was about 16 i remember some idiot brought a handgnu to a party and the cops found it on sunday morning after everyone had taken acid and it went mental

i admit i took an old car to get home on sunday or monday once or twice (long before i had a license). i’m not proud and i took them all back

much of the scene was run by gangsters, for profit, for a long time and at least that doesn’t seem to be the case anymore, as the stakes have got higher

i reckon that after you’ve been involved for a long time and have been involved in organising things properly, you see all the errors others make more clearly… it seems magnified

it’s a dodgy thing to be involved in in the first place and no matter what your values are, there will be a whole bunch of other people involved who don’t share them, that’s part of it that you have to accept.

before i had kids i was still happy to risk it throwing free parties and i still go to a few. this summer has been fantastic here, with some small (200ish people) invite only free parties on private land and some TENS events with a small entry charge. the parties i’ve been to this summer have had the best atmosphere and production values i’ve ever seen

I know it had a lot more bad aspects in the early 90s; and indeed the gangsters have gone from the parties, and most of the smackheads too – but it went really well for a long time (from 97 to 2001 SE England was particularly good) and even up to 2004-05 it was OK – now its gone shit again.

Its particularly painful to see Norfolk go tits up (starting with the “North Norfolk” crews and spreading to the Suffolk/Essex crews) as it was only earlier this year that things were so much better. Even last weekend was still better than a SE England rave TBH…

People here are talking about TENS (there are gonna be a lot of ex-poultry farmers desperate for cash soon!) but the problem is the actual social networks (real ones, not computer ones) needed to pull off these parties seem to be breaking apart in this area and people don’t have as much spare resources (time/money/vehicles) as they once did

Also people making the same mistakes and dumbing themselves down at the same time the cops become more and more clued up is quite frankly suicide tactics..

People have always been individualistic and stubborn in East Anglia anyway (thats why the “community” split into something like 30 separate crews…)

We are out once every 4 weeks roughly all through the summer [between equinoxes]

Usually we turn up, party and then there is a coordinated clean up before we leave the site [organised with recycling bags and rubbish bags and gloves] people all help out and its done really quickly

There was one serious injury this year at a party I was at which I treated and sent the lad to hospital as he had the worst cut I had seen in 15 years of first aid [on arrival at A&E he was knocked out and sent into surgery immediately]

I have heard of a few bits of stupidity but most of it has not taken place at parties I was at – the people I have partied with where first class and I have had a great time raaaraaaraaa

I think one big difference between SW England and Eastern England (despite being similar sea-facing regions) is that here we are still very much in an economic boom, all our ports are active and busy transit routes – there is always loads of work here, loads of building work as well and even IT/office jobs that are disappearing elsewhere – provided you are willing to comply with societies norms.

in some ways it is more like 1987 than 2007 but the demands are high (long hours and weekend working), so a lot of maturing young people (age 21 upwards) have already “had their fun” raving – they are now wanting to make the most of the boom time whilst it lasts…

one of my mates who is just 20 is knocking partying on the head already so he can concentrate on his uni studies (actually a lot of people are doing that now it seems)

There is no incentive to buck the system for a lot of people when in the short term it is doing them good..

there is still remnants of that “community” ideal what Kan and others had (and is reflected even in the historical posts from Olly, Titch and others when they still did parties as well as Frij and Binge) but that sense of real friendship and solidarity seems to be disappearing – people seem to use each other for what resources they can bring to a party rather than integrate as real friends (this isn’t unique to East Anglia either, was becoming a problem in SE England when I left..)

maybe there is still more of a big community spirit in Scotland?

East Anglia may be a bit “rural” but it is also still heavily influenced by London and its attitudes (some parts of Ipswich may as well be Romford or Hackney, although there is less traffic and less gunshots)

I’m a bit late getting into the free party culture and every one i’ve been to (Not many BTW) have all been quality! I’ve met so many different lovely albeit crazy characters and was told of this site thru said characters!

What i’m trying to say is that in the last year or so since i’ve been attending raves and getting to know you all on here i’m totally loving my life at the moment and it’s people like you all on here that have made that possible.

So thanks everybody and i would very much like to meet you all at a rave one day and get munted with ya!!
