Just decided to get back into mixing, only trouble is since i stopped mixing dnb a few years ago ive been getting into my breaks and buying loads of cd’s, which would be too expensive to buy again on record. Ive never really used cd decks so has anyone got any recomendations about which cd decks are the best, easiest to use, best value etc etc etc. Also does anybody know any good websites to dowload/buy cds/mp3’s for new breaks and techno?thanks.

September 18, 2007 at 11:34 am #1120358Mr Process,
as with all things in life it’s down to budget and to what level your wanting to take your hobby.
you can start at the bottom of the chain with some gemini or numarks (chj01 or the axis4) but frankly they would be just for ya bedroom any outside use (parties whatever) would make them keel over, trust me.
i went for some middle of the road Stanton c314 players when i started and they were fantastic, durable and could with stand being thrown about. problem is the price in cd players ive found there are 3 bands of player (3 bands of quality that is)
Shit – Bottom of the pay scale (normally £100 – £250 each), not solid in design which often leads to you being really disopointed when it arrives on ya door step. The cheaper decks can sometimes when knocked let the track jump, skip or hop whatever you want to call it, this isnt cool when your midway through a mix and you put a cup down. soooo when buying the decks look for clues which tell you how good the deck is at antijogging.
Middle of the road – (£250 – £500 each) i wouldnt buy anything bellow £250, no way. To be honest the problem with cd players is there arent many places in ya local town which you can pop into and ask to have a play, so its down to your nose, i researched long and hard before purchasing my little beauties. You can get the pioneer 200 for around 300 quid, but you’d wanna get rid of it after 10 minutes due to it being simple and frankly an over-rated piece of mud. within this price range the decks start to become more solid and better equipped for playing, samplers and fx’s are on them plus better and more sterdy loading systems. the loading system is either a tray which is like on your comp disk drive and the other is an internal loading system (you push the disk into a slot) i prefer the tray design but thats just me.
and, way outta ya league – (£500 -£1200)
now your getting into the big guns, pioneers are the owners of this price bracket, from the pioneer 800 through to the latest 1000dvd player thing they’ve brought out. this is super duper expensive, and although worth it there are plenty of awesome players in the middle of the road price band.here’s some models you should take a look at …
stanton c313’s
stanton c314’s
vestax cdx05
denon dns1000
pioneer 200’s
vestax cdr07hope this kinda helped. sorry if some of it doesnt make sense, i just got up 🙂
take care dude. any questions just pm or post on this thread, ill keep checking back.

September 18, 2007 at 12:54 pm #1120355be dead cheeky and go round shops and ask for a shot of all the different ones and ask for the sakes pitches too….then try and work out which you liked best and try them again in the shop of your choice just to be sure. with the price tags on good ones any really good shop should let you try to use them before you buy….
and yes the cdj1000s are wicked 🙂

think it might have to be the pioneers, looks like they are alright all-rounders. what exactly do you think is wrong with them? im not too bothered about all the extra shit the other decks have as my decks didnt have them so its not like ill miss anything. just so long as there reliable and don’t fuck up and keep time thats pretty much all im worried, oh and that they sound good too.cheers.matt.

Also the denons look pretty good, but there not as well known a brand so are they going to be as well built?September 18, 2007 at 1:16 pm #1141117the vestax cdx 07’s look pretty slick as well what with being able to burn cds…

vestax are good quality, as are denon.

September 18, 2007 at 3:07 pm #1120354do cd decks keep perfect time as they are digital or is it like normal decks where certain decks/brands hold time better than others?
