looks like it s end of the era for me into that kinda music …and the smoking ban ..well it made it even worse cos the outside area was like fenced in an there was no seats or naff all…i dont even smoke (ok now an then when im out) now an it was too much for me i ended up smoking …grrrr not a good nite…:crazy_dizSeptember 17, 2007 at 6:34 pm #1120325i’ve only ever been to a couple of trance / psytrance nights before and thought the music was ok
but i never want to hear another trance tune again after the weekend
give me some hardcore breaks, or wonky techno to dance to from now on

September 18, 2007 at 9:05 am #1120334Sad to say I agree with you about psytrance, April. I’ve loved acid psychedlia since I first heard it many yonks ago, and I probably have more psytrance CDs than all the rest put together. But first psy went dark and minimal, then it went hard and relentless – which is the groove it’s been stuck in for about the last 5 years.
And over the last few years I’ve just got bored with it, with hearing the same medium-speed bang bang crash crash all the time. No tunes for the ears, no variation in speeds for the body, no journeys in the set for the mind, and producers who seem to need to fill every last bit of the soundspace with hooks and layers that the average party rig (even the excellent one my local night Psycle uses) is just not capable of playing clearly enough for me to hear.
I was talking to a psy DJ friend about it, something like 18 months back, and he said the same – as a reviewer for a magazine he got sent so much samey psytrance dross and yet almost nothing that he wanted to play himself. So I think it’s not just that I’ve kakked my hearing from dancing near the speakers for too long 🙂
Now I rarely listen to psy these days 🙁 I much prefer techno, breakbeat and especially crossover styles. I’ve heard some good breakbeat psy on albums for instance – but when do you ever hear that played out ? About one tune, once, that I can recall … 🙁

i went to a psy-trance festival with about 3500 people last weekend and the music was pants. mind-numbingly boring, samey with nothing driving it at all… at no point did i feel that there was anything i could dance to
i don’t think it’s the country that’s got the problem

September 18, 2007 at 8:11 pm #1120329I think I am already on record for saying “I love my tekno hard”.
I think it must be an age thing – the older I get the faster/harder/darker I like it :bounce_fl
I used to be into psy trance back when it was known as “Goa” but I grew out of it and it never really changed. 😥
