Hi,
I have created this thread so as any Police out there may raise their opinions on breaking up Free Gatherings. Please feel free to let us all know how much you get paid for doing this!
June 9, 2007 at 2:13 pm #1112841you will be very unlikely to get any serious answers (maybe a few people pretending to be coppers for a laugh).
The last cops who tried signing on here as registered users did so back in 2002, it was Wiltshire Constabulary telling some crew they would bust a party in Wiltshire (which they did). That was back in the day when people could get away with posting a lot more info.
Like any other public sector or Crown worker, they aren’t actually supposed to have an opinion, they are simply supposed to uphold the law.
Some cops have been allowed to blog and you can find their views on Google, but they are not allowed (due to data protection/confidentiality rules) to talk in depth about ongoing “operational matters”. The same applies to NHS and other public sector staff.
Even if individual cops disagree with going in heavy (and some actually do), others feel they are simply upholding the law and the rights of the property owner in assisting clearing an area from trespassers, and they feel they have the right to use whatever force is necessary to clear the area.
As for pay, they get paid the same rates (either standard or weekend overtime) for their rank whatever they are doing, whether they are plodding the beat or closing down a rave.
You can often find your local forces rates of pay on their website, under the Freedom of Information section, or on the Police Authority website for your area, or even in the recruitment section!

Please bear in mind in nearly 10 years that this forum has been running there have been changes of databases and software so although we try to archive everything a few posts unfortunately go “missing”…
their username was Wiltshire Police, and their ISP was a large corporate (Cable and Wireless) which at the time did not do residential connections, but is a major supplier to the public sector – and a bit of searching also turned up (in some IT trade mags website) when C&W signed the contract with the cops.
These companies marketing departments obviously like to brag about their fat contracts they have signed as it increases “brand awareness”.
The cops they posted a simple warning as a follow up “we are monitoring your activities and will take steps to stop any illegal rave event in the Wiltshire area”. T
here was a trend of cops doing this at one point (they did it on the old text news groups and even managed to trace people and do house calls) until they found it did nothing to stop people holding raves; they then went back to covert or semi-covert surveillance methods.

June 9, 2007 at 4:20 pm #1112837AnonymousWhy don’t they just use BT or something, from a private address? It would make sense, l mean if they’re really serious then why not do that? Sorry but it’s an obvious point that was neglected and that’s the only reason l’m bringing it up.

Anyway these days there’s just as much chance any local who doesn’t like the idea of a rave could be scanning this forum to see what they can pick up and pass on to the cops.
This is why we encourage people to be careful about what they post, and for newbies to interact and chat about themselves and music to gain peoples trust rather than just expect to be spoon-fed with info about free parties like what used to happen here (partylines in posts, sometimes even approximate locations).

June 9, 2007 at 4:38 pm #1112839AnonymousYep, just about any OB is capable of 2-faced double-dealing. Same with anyone else l guess.
:weee: No offence to any OB but l’m guessing that they are more prone to treachery and leaking insider info etc. than most professions, purely because the nature of their work these days suits that character type !

its like the “Forward Intelligence Team” of cops and photographers that watches you at marches/demos/meetings if you are any sort of political activist. They are supposed to be “undercover” but although they don’t always wear Police uniforms they are really obvious in their actions.
There role is clearly more to remind activists they are being scrutinised than to covertly gather information..

Its hilarious – until you consider how much public money was spent to train these cops..
now when you see CID at raves they are often chaperoned by an older officer in his or her 40s of senior rank…
