i couldn’t find a sports forum so i thort i’d just start a thread :groucho:

      anyone here into footy?

      if so:

      1. which team do ya support? i’m a commited grimsby town fan, family have been ever since the creation of the footy club, love ’em! better than glory supportin!

      2. anyone see chelsea vs. arsenal? bloody hell john terry! looked well nasty! and the fight at the end was just plain funny, made the match even more interestin! the way wayne bridge (i think) actied as though he had been shot in the leg instead of gettin’ tapped on the head :laugh_at:

so yeah, up the mariners! :weee:

any thoughts on the game or footy in general?

ha ha, not much of a response, bunch of philistines…:laugh_at:

I support Leicester, so that means i don’t really like football. On the other hand, i do like lumpin it up to a big lad, and trying to snaffle up the bits and pieces; also, i like too see our guys running round like headless chickens, so when we do get the ball, we are too knackered to actually do anything with it…

        Its not really football tho!:groucho:

Tis better than being a midlands based Man U fan, or some similiar travesty of footy-fandom!

On John Terry, we used to have a player like that, at Leicester. He was totally brave, and was carried unconscious, from the pitch, on a good number of occaisions.

He was quicker than Terry, and just as good in other departments (tho maybe a touch ‘fiery’), and would have won England caps, if he had played for a ‘fashionable’ club.

definately – half the people i know support man-u for no other reason than “they are good”, very few have a genuine non-glory supporter reason. i prefer stickin with me true team

Im a diehard Leicester City fan (was born there) in that i check the score of their game in the papers the morning after. When i was younger i really was diehard. Back in the days of “Classic” Leicester City. Claridge, Heskey, Cottee, Elliot, Lennon. Keller, Izzet…. ahh good times

yer init, they get the slightest knock and they go down like a sack of shit.
also the disipline in rugby is spot on. the refs decision is rarly questioned.
i think footy could take a leaf out of the book of rugby

i do however follow liverpool as thats where most of my family are from

Oh i will watch the odd match, mainly England games or finals if my mates are up the pub.

Yeah you are right about the respect on the Rugby pitch, when i played i the Ref was always refered to as “Sir” and what he said went!!

You used to get the odd sly punch in the face in some of the rougher matches but then all chums again at the end

thats it , a few punches are thrown but once its over they just get on with it, no clutchin of face or running upto the ref demmanding cards be shown.

i got a lot more respect for rugby than footy.

and the wages they are on is absolutly disgusting.

in liverpool espesh where its ment to be a peoples club, tickets cost best part of 30 quid, to take your family to see the game its gonna cost for what most people is nearly a weeks wage.:you_crazy yet the players are on more a week than most would dream of a year

i do agree with the comments about the pathetic dives, complainin, disrespect and money issues, however i will defend footy that is outside the top 2 divisions, particularly outside the premiership. the premiership is pathetic (fuckin murdoch’s fault) but lower league footy still has some passion and toughness in it.

also i tend to find with rugby union in particular its got a load of really up-themselves upper-class private schooled wankers as fans, i much prefer footy fans despite their faults. of corse this aint tru for all union fans tho.

yer fair play, i think with the amount of money in the game (premiership) some of this should help out clubs in the lower leagues,

who since the glazers took over has spent money on my local club wycombe wanderers because i dont wish to line their pockets.

Arsenal Chelsea boxing match was quite funny really , but again anther thing the kids will think is ok to do on a football pitch
also the one thing i dont understand is why Lampard wasn’t sent off too
he was well involved and should have been red carded

tbh i think whether the pros do it or not, at my level (under 16s) in particular thers always gunna be massive brawls cos its a real compettitive game and there a lotta nutters that play.

premiership players earning over £100,000 (some anyway).it got out of hand years ago .how can those sort of wages be justified .i stopped going to football around about 1986 .still love watching it on tv but have no desire to go to a game anymore .when the terraces went so did the atmosphere along with the working class supporters .now u need a loan just to watch a premiership game .low payed people have no chance .we have been discarded .

agreed completely. all comes down to murdoch and his sky monopoly really, it all revolves around money now. high league footy is a novelty for middle class kids to go see, lower league is still workin class but this is slowly gettin more expensive.

grimsby is a workin class stronghold, old labour thru and thru. prices have gone up, £17 an adult ticket not too bad but still theres a reason why 20 years ago we could draw in 30,000 fans odd at home games and now we struggle to reach 6,000. and yeah terraces should be brought back, standin up you feel so much more part of the game.

it pisses me off to see the way footy has become. all about money and jack shit else, pisses on the workin class nowadays, even tho we were the foundation of football and the reason it is such a huge sport!

(Did I mention I have a small thing for Manchester United) SORRY.
