thinkin bout goin 2 a university – the idea of workin at a sainsburys 4 the rest of my life seems kinda shite (n thats after bein ther 4 only 2 weeks….), n bein on the dole wasnt much better.
was gona aply 4 pyschology maybe, ting is anyone know how much work is actualy involved? n also i ent sure wether the whole ravin every wkend getin messy all week lifestyle wud fit in wit uni n dont reli wana change all that!
basically just wonderin if anyone has succesfuly managed 2 be a raver and do uni!? lol
or any other less ‘hard working’ ideas?…..
February 21, 2007 at 10:13 am #1100106I’m a student and i help organise parties up here and still have time to work on building up the new soundsystem.
Its a lot of work but you can get throughit all with a small ammount of work each day during the week. I’m lucky in that I have no lectures on friday so I can have a long weekend of gettin mashup or even use during the day on friday to get all my wok done.

”dedications what you need if you wanna be a record breaker oooo yeaaah!”
youll be fine i have loadsa mates whove gone off to uni and started helping other rigs closer to where they go to uni instead of the ones from our home town, just throw yourself at it theres many a person out there with the same ideas, wants and needs as the raver 🙂
🙂
February 21, 2007 at 6:44 pm #1100104you could try open university. their courses are of a very high standard, are more flexible than traditional university (so if you’re not certain what subject to take at the beginning, you still have time to change your mind without having to re-do courses) and it’s free if you earn less than about £15,500 per year for a single person
it takes longer though
February 21, 2007 at 6:52 pm #1100107I don’t think open university and partying could go hand in hand tbh.
I don’t think I could work a job and go to uni. Far too much stress. The workload is fairly extreme in comparison to what I was expecting but as long as you keep on top of it and don’t fall behind its not that bad.

the biggest benefit to OU is not ending up with tens of thousands of punds of debt, and only putting in about 10 hours a week if you’re really going for it
February 21, 2007 at 7:07 pm #1100109Yeh after taking gap year travelling thru SE Asia im goin 2 sussex, hopin ill find sum ravers down there? Anyone know much about the scene in Brighton?
February 22, 2007 at 2:00 pm #1100101what are your reasons for wanting to go to uni?
is it to learn something you are genuinely interested in, or simply to try and get a job with better pay?
This makes a lot of difference as to whether its worth it and if so which course you should do
And even if you do get or have a degree its not an automatic earner, you end up with loads of debts and often applying for “graduate jobs” seems to entail more scrutiny of your lifestyle outside work to get and keep these jobs..
plus you are still competing with lots of people both at home and in foreign nations who didn’t party as much, got a 1st class honours and are prepared to accept corporate domination…
February 22, 2007 at 5:36 pm #1100108Go for it I say! But make sure you do something your really interested in otherwise 3 years can be a hell of a long time! And make sure you do something with good job prospects-I know psychology is a tricky one as I looked into it myself.
I’m in my second year of uni studying Acupuncture. It’s hard work but it’ll be worth it in the end, much better than staying in a dead end job.
I go partying pretty much every weekend and I would never compramise that-I love it far too much! Apart from the odd head mashed monday morning lectures it’s not been too bad.
At the end of the day you can do anything you want to when you put your mind to it.
Good luck!
February 22, 2007 at 5:41 pm #1100110Im doin Philosophy and Economics, philosophy coz i love the subject and economics coz im good at it and and would help with future jobs. But like linz said, sure ill manage, just not much will go in on a monday!
February 22, 2007 at 7:15 pm #1100111thnks 4 all the replies! basically wat general lighting said v good point n why i didnt go after college n havnt decided so far, goin 4 the wrong reasons wud only make things worse. i guess the hardest part is decidin on a career that u wana do n that will fit in wit ur lifestyle. after that its a case of workin out how to get ther n goin 4 it!
February 22, 2007 at 7:47 pm #1100102if you enjoy making things, solving problems and/or seeing an actual result of your work then the construction industry/building maintenance trades or IT networks/infrastructure (i.e physically installing equipment and getting it up and running) are good options…
although these days in IT what you need to do is find work on equipment that has to remain in your country (such as small offices/retail or in healthcare places) and therefore your job cannot be outsourced or offshored
