September 14, 2006 at 6:01 pm #1089720its a dried soya product.
you can get bolognase (?spelling) or chilli – veggieSeptember 14, 2006 at 6:07 pm #1089715ah, cheers for clarifying! is it nice? im a bit scared of soya for some reason. Im not veggie, but i dont eat meat very often (usually when my bf bugs me we havnt had any for days) id like to try veggie options, but so far all ive tried have been boring and bland. Seems easier to just eat a bowl of veg to me- although that way missing out on proteins
September 14, 2006 at 6:17 pm #1089721i remember it being nice, but not sure if it had more to do with my finances and it being a cheap meal option.
I much prefer Quorn (mince or pieces) and do my own sauce etc, lots of my meat eating friends say they dont mind it as it soaks up what ever sauces and isnt dry either that or they just complimenting me coz I get huffy as i am the one who always cooks !!! :laugh_at: I’m cheap!September 14, 2006 at 10:56 pm #1089712i detest soya, quorn and tofu as an alternative to meat
if you want meat, eat meat, if you want vegetarian, eat vegetarian
that half way stuff is like boiled socks :yakk:

for better tasting results try this recipe: [apologies for lack of quantities – i just use it – never written it down before – taught to me by a vegan chef ]
unflavoured TVP [ignore all meat flavoured tastes :yakk::yakk:]
onions
vegetable stock [kallo are the best for this but use your favourite]
any other veg you want to add
pepper and saltget a large frying pan [just exactly like the meat mince ones]
into it put chopped onions and garlic and vegeatble oil of choice [olive?]
fry till onions almost golden
add TVP [vege mince] about 1 cup
fry for a couple more minutes [may need to add a little extra oil]
add 500 mls of vegetable stock [made at 1.5 to 2 x normal concentration for the stock] and simmer til it has all been absorbednow you can treat this stuff as normal mince and use in bolognaise, lasagna
has fooled commited carnivores BTW :weee:
