I heard on the news that the police were probably heavy handed, but still its not good press..

“Violence flared and five officers were injured when police tried to break up an illegal rave involving up to 600 revellers in Essex.

Police arrested 35 people at the site on suspicion of conspiring to cause a public nuisance. Andrew Winstanley reports.” 27th August 2006

a report has just TX’d on BBC East which was fairly balanced TBH and gave a lot of airtime to the ravers showing off their injuries.

as usuall there are loads of conflicting claims about what happened and whether the farmer gave permission for the event to take place – but unfortunately this is hardly the first time such an incident has happened

(there are loads of posts on here mentioning similar incidents over the last 6 years and raves in the 1980s and 1990s were often violently broken up in such a fashion).

How long though will this go on for?

If the rest of society doesn’t like the resurgence in illegal raves then they will have to tolerate more legal ones without the excessive bureacracy and restrictions associated with the current licensing process.

its clearly not possible to beat the desire to listen to music out of people as it didn’t work 16 years ago and it is not going to work now.

No one wins out of it; when ravers are subjected to this sort of violence for what is in truth a fairly minor offence it makes them (particularly younger ones going through turbulent stages in their life) distrust the law and authority to the point where people are more likely to turn to binge drinking/crime/anti-social behaviour as there is nothing better for them to do!
