August 27, 2006 at 1:26 pm #1087668incidentally that reporters speciality (although he turns up in the Arts section) appears to be racial issues and Islamic radicalism, although he does have connections with the East of England (probably formerly a local reporter from that area).
August 27, 2006 at 4:33 pm #1087672i dont really feel i have anything to say about that party (especially to the press)… i wasnt there and i dont know the crews involved or the area
August 27, 2006 at 4:34 pm #1087676yeah that was what crossed my mind when i saw this thread:hopeless:

August 27, 2006 at 4:51 pm #1087673he’s already written and filed the story
August 27, 2006 at 4:56 pm #1087669he took a statement from Green Derek (who made use of the opportunity to point out the problems with licensing regulations and the continuation of the mid 90s tory puritanism by Blair).
will be interesting to see what turns up tomorrow..
August 27, 2006 at 5:03 pm #1087667I was just catching up with sorted, I’m pleased some positive notions might make it in there…
August 27, 2006 at 5:09 pm #1087670to be fair all the Guardian reports (and even the comments) have been fairly balanced/positive – had expected more hand-wringing from the environmentalists there about contamination/noise etc..
August 27, 2006 at 6:12 pm #1087674yeah it’s a pretty good paper… i think before they judge something they look at the power involved (ie. if you have power, are you using it responsibly)… free party people are pretty much the underdog
August 28, 2006 at 12:08 am #1087671article has now run and can be found here..

Seems fairly balanced and interestingly, despite the cops getting quite a few column inches even they say only a minority of both cops and ravers were involved in the disturbances when they could easily have exaggerated the scale of the attacks
and the farmer has said to the press he contacted the police (which doesn’t match up with claims that he gave written permission, had this been the case how come no one has got a copy of the letter?)
August 28, 2006 at 12:17 am #1087677its a pretty good article IMO

Also the farmer has made a public statement to the Guardian that he actually called the cops himself (which doesn’t match up with claims by the crews involved that they “had permission” to use the area).
the article does seem quite balanced, as do the police quotes (once it gets to that point, accept it’s over and go elsewhere)
Quote:“We went there with the intention of negotiating the implementation of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act,” said Chief Superintendent Graeme Bull, from Essex police. “We wanted to maintain the peace and ask people to disperse.“The majority of people were compliant and prepared to leave, but there was a significant minority who met police with unprecedented and ferocious resistance. Their conduct was disgraceful – weapons were used, missiles were thrown.”
gutted about the party in Cornwall. that was a regular event… seems there was communication accros the nation and a general sense of panic / fear from cops all over
although some mates got away with a lurvely party in devon with about 300 friendly heads, no complaints and a tree climbing contest in the morning
be cosmic, my friends
and fuck the foes
