Hi pverts,
I’ve seen the trailer (like, wow!), and was all motivated and keen, only to find that i’m gonna have to go to nottingham, if I wanna see it. I know Leicester is a bit crap, but I resent havin to travel just to see a film. It’s just like being back in the dark ages really!
I read the book many years ago, along with a few other dick books.:groucho:
the guy was a totally paranoid genius – i think he was a speedfreak mentalist, but way, way ahead of his time. Apparently some/all of his books were banned/not released in this country, cos of the drug references, if I remember right.
so wot do you reckon, should i make the effort?
August 21, 2006 at 7:57 pm #1087180I’ve been looking forward to seeing that as well, not sure if I would travel much of a distance to go it see though…

August 21, 2006 at 10:29 pm #1087181Yeah I want to see that.
How come you have got to travel to nottingham to see it? I don’t understand.
Haven’t checked in to the film but is there some sort of exclusive screenings or something.
August 22, 2006 at 1:29 am #1087184I’ve looked long and hard, and it seems to be a limited release type thing. It opened properly (as opposed to previews) last friday, but not in sad old leicester. I’m pretty gobsmacked given the big name cast.
It seems to be on at three different cinemas in notts, which probably says something about the citizens of that bullet ridden city (ie its full of wreckheads).
Funnily enough, i’m seriously thinkin of movin to big bad London. Leicester sucks!
August 22, 2006 at 1:54 am #1087190LOL. Everytime I go to the east midlands I haven’t got a clue whether I’m in Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire or Derbyshire. They all seem to merge at once, lol.
Must check out the film though. It sounds good. BTW you’re always welcome to come up north instead.:wink:August 22, 2006 at 1:58 am #1087191OMG Winona Ryder as well. Definitely going to see it now!
August 22, 2006 at 2:01 am #1087185Thank u, thats the nicest thing anybody has said to me on PV. I’ve got good memories of Manc actually, been through on tour a few times (not as glam as it sounds!), tis dead friendly.
Especially compared to London. Unfortunately, London is where the big money is, in my line of work.
August 22, 2006 at 2:32 am #1087192The offer and the pleasure’s mine man. Thank YOU for the late night chat and I hope to catch ya tomorrow. Take care and sweet dreams man.
:love:January 8, 2007 at 2:36 pm #1087194I’ve just watched this flick for the second time and got really terrified. It’s the most twisted study of paranoia (with elements of conspiracy theory, ego/identity crisis and dealing with addiction/death/suicide issues + including themes such as rumours/accusations) I’ve ever encountered and I’m still recovering.
Please be careful when mixing this with any chemicals.

Another dealing with similar matters is an anime Serial Experiments: Lain

From Linklater check:
Waking Life

http://www.torrentspy.com/torrent/629169/Waking_Life_by_Richard_LinklaterSame technique (hell more visually trippy though) as A Scanner Darkly but more philosophical and also some great music.

http://www.torrentz.com/0609f417902b7fccf5e53f4dffcd25c1ff0dbe2dMuch older, somewhat sociological and including quotes such as “the time doesn’t exist” and quite a lot of other references.
January 8, 2007 at 4:05 pm #1087183I thoroughly enjoyed this film, it is really thought provoking and since I watched it late last year keep asking/waiting for it to be released on DVD so I can watch it again because it definitely needs a few views.
There are similarities to Naked Lunch with the story, but the way they have shot it with rotoscoping technique is really stunning and adds to the surreal effect of the script.
Great filming and brilliant writing, I’m off to read the book…and check the links above! :crazy_dru
